Today was the day that we decided to distribute the firewood that we have been working with for the past 3 weeks. The only workers that were here today were Mr. Iddrisu, Zorash and Nazo but we divided the wood among all the workers except Tichak, one of the watchmen because he said that he did not need firewood because he lives outside of town and can gather all he needs from his farm. He does not actually do the gathering; it is women’s work so his wife is the one that gathers the firewood. Everyone was happy to get the wood; Nazo said that now his wife could rest because she did not have to hunt for firewood. What! I believe that I could “encourage” Steve to help with the firewood gathering!!!
Steve pulled out the motorcycle this morning to see if it would start. The thing was leaking fuel almost as fast as we could put it in. It was leaking in 2 places. The gas shut off valve was leaking and the fuel hose that leads to the carburetor also was leaking. We quickly loaded it into the back of the pickup and headed to Solomon, the motorcycle mechanics shop. Fortunately he was there and not so busy so he started working on it right away. He had it up and running before supper. He always finds some other things to fix as all good mechanics do! He reattached the yellow covers on the turn signals and he installed a new battery so it does not have to be kick started. He was so kind, he took it and had it washed and then drove it out to the mission house. Of course once he was here he had no way of getting back to Yendi so Steve drove him back to his shop.
The medicine we ordered for the Child Center early in the week came in today. We were surprised that it came in so quickly; we did not expect it until next week. The order filled the back of the pickup and we had to put some in the back seat. We ordered 15 cases of liquid Tylenol and 10 cases of liquid vitamins; each case has 60 bottles. We also got ORS (oral rehydration solution), adult vitamins, and vitamin C. We thought we would get the paint on our way back from the drugstore but we had to off load the meds to have enough room for the paint.
A couple who were church members from Bakpaba stopped by this afternoon; they have a sick child and they wanted Steve to give the child formula. The child is over 1 year old so it does not qualify for formula. The mother was concerned because the child had had a seizure and somehow she thought that giving formula would help the child. Steve advised them to go to the hospital.
Steve is outside putting a bench together for the church we will visit tomorrow.
Thank you for the love, prayers and support.
In His service,
Steve and Kandie
