Zorash stopped by this morning to give us an update on some of the people we have been helping with medical treatment. Warihana, the young teen girl that has Osteomyelitis had the surgery and is still in the hospital. The twin of the hydrocephalic baby that died was discharged from the hospital but they have not come back to Yendi yet. They are staying with family in Tamale until after they finish all the funeral rites of the twin that died.
Zorash had drawn our attention to a young man that is in his twenties; he was in Accra and one morning when he got up his legs were so weak that he could not walk. His legs and feet feel like they are asleep. No one is aware of any sickness or fever. Evidently they took him to see someone in Accra but whether that was a real doctor or not who knows. They then brought him to Yendi. The family was treating him through the Juju (fetish doctors); they have consulted several. The last one told them to buy limes and certain herbs and to bathe him in the concoction. Zorash told them that these traditional things would not help and they were wasting their money. She finally got them to hire a vehicle and take him to the clinic; the clinic referred him to Yendi hospital; Yendi hospital referred him to Tamale but they have spent all their money on the traditional medicine and sacrifices so they have nothing left to take him to Tamale. They are afraid the treatments in Tamale will be very expensive. He told Zorash that his stomach was not comfortable; he felt like he was bloated and full of water so he did not want to eat anything. It is possible that the paralysis has also affected other parts of his body besides just his legs. We told Zorash that we would pay for his transportation to Tamale so he can be seen by a real doctor and determine if anything can be done to help him walk again. Zorash was going to stop and talk to his family this afternoon.
Steve and I raked and burned leaves this morning while it was cooler and late this afternoon. Steve is still out there burning. The ones we raked this morning we put into an existing pile of leaves that had been there for some time. We have gotten one heavy rain and one drizzly rain so the leaves in that pile were wet. We used some rancid shea butter to get the fire started and then Steve put the blower on the pile. It was like using a bellows! That fire got very hot and those wet leaves did not stand a chance! We will be sore tomorrow.
Take care and have a great day!
In His service,
Steve and Kandie
