On Sunday when we went to visit Joseph Kumasi, the old church leader that had a stroke, we gave him a little money so he could buy medicine or whatever his family needed. In turn his wife gifted us peanuts from her farm. The peanuts were still in the shell. This morning in between seeing the babies we started shelling the peanuts. They are tiny peanuts but they are clean and free of bugs which makes me very happy. After we get them shelled we will have Meri fry them and share them with the workers. It will make a nice mid-morning treat.
While we were working Papa Zachariah came to work in his garden. He started talking about the goat. He said that the goat did not come inside the yard last night. He said that the goat slept on the veranda beside him. I told him he should never let a goat or sheep sleep inside the compound. He said that he tried to chase it away; he said he had caught it several times and threw it over the wall but it kept coming back. He said that he would shoot it with his catapult (slingshot) and it would still keep coming back in. It was not for lack of trying that the goat slept on the veranda. We asked Papa if he thought the goat was a witch. He laughed and said, “The goat be a goat!” Nazo launched off into why he thought it was a witch.
Dawda the mason stopped by for a visit this morning. He is anxious to get started building the new set of rooms on the back part of the mission property but he can’t start until Red brings the big gravel. I asked Red about the gravel and he said that he had decided to bring us a fresh load of gravel instead of hiring men to load the gravel that is in his backyard. He said that he is afraid to get the gravel right now because we have had so much rain; he is afraid that he will get stuck.
This afternoon we went to town to buy writing tablets and pens for the evangelists’ and church leaders’ class tomorrow. The men like to take notes and the tablets help keep them organized.
While we were out I had Steve take me to the scrap metal place so I could buy a few accessories for the scrap metal birds that Red made. The birds are cute but they will be cuter when we finish decorating them. We bought a bicycle chain sprocket; Steve is going to cut it in half to make combs for the birds and we bought condemned bicycle fenders to use for wings. These birds have no wings and they only have one tail feather. We want to add at least 2 more tail feathers and wings are a must; we can’t have flightless birds now can we?
Keep praying for us!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
