We didn’t have to drive as far today to get to our destination; the village of Jagrido. This is the village where Timothy Niligrini’s brother, Daniel lives. Kandie and I drove out to Kulkpeni and picked up Timothy and proceeded on to the village.
A lot of the men were already in the building. The church building is larger than most of the church buildings which should make the building cooler but they fill in the windows using decorative cement blocks. This creates low air circulation in the room. By the time services were over everyone attending was sweating like they were in a sauna. After I preached I went to the pickup to get a duster (clean rag used for wiping car windows) for me to wipe the sweat off my face and a plastic fan for Kandie.
As some of you know I like to ask the congregation what they want me to preach on when I arrive. Well, today I got a very unusual request; “Can a Christian be a politician”? I took the example of Pilate acting as a politician when confronted by the Jewish leaders by washing his hands of Jesus when he knew Christ wasn’t guilty in Matthew’s account. I also used the Ethiopian Eunuch and Cornelius as those who followed after God’s word. Revelation 21:8 states “All liars will not enter heaven”. If you can be a politician and not lie or be corrupt then the answer to the question can a Christian be a politician; “Yes”.
After services were over we drove over to the other side of the village where the chief lives. The Jagrido Chief is a paramount chief of the Konkomba tribe of which Timothy Niligrini is a member. This chief is old but he loves to have us drop by to see him. He was just recently discharged from the hospital for some ailment. Kandie got him to tell her a story; he is a good story teller. The chief had a piece of yam sitting in front of him on a little table that looked just like a hand. He let Kandie take a photo of it and then he gave it to her. We gave the chief some kola and a gift of money to help him with his hospital bill. He was happy!
When we arrived at Timothy’s house we unloaded a bag of produce Timothy had loaded in the truck at Jagrido for his wife Rita. We stayed at his house long enough to allow Timothy to try out the used sewing machine that Timothy purchased from us. He is really proud of the machine.
At Kulkpeni tonight the devo was short because there was a business meeting beforehand. We had a bushel and a peck of kids attending.
Hope you had a good day! May God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
