“I did nothing but sit, sit, sit all day long!” We went to Tamale today to do business. Most of the business was done by Steve and I sat in the truck. I was not idle while I sat there; I took the computer and got all of the receipts entered.
We stopped at the lawyer’s office; he was not around but his assistant was able to give us the receipt that we needed so we did not have to come back later.
We bought a few canned food items and a new skillet at Melcom’s, the largest department store in Tamale.
Steve had to renew his Ghanaian nurse’s license. He had to make 2 trips to that office because the renewal fee has to be made at one of the banks.
We went to the auditor’s office twice. We turned in the yearly accounts before we left Ghana in December. We fully expected to pick up the annual returns and be done with it for another year but there were new forms that had to be filled out. We filled them out but still do not know exactly what their purpose is. They are called BO-1 and BO-2 which is short for “Beneficial something or the other”. Awal, the accountant that is working on them is going to file them next week.
We went to the bank and had to sit for a long time because they did not have as many 5 cedi notes as we needed so we had to wait for someone to open the vault and get them.
Today was the day for paying the vehicle insurance on all the vehicles. Steve had to go to that office 3 times. Once to drop off the paperwork, once to pay for the renewals and once to go back and pick up the check book that was left when the insurance was paid.
We were happy when we went to the Social Welfare office and found out that our new license was there waiting on us. The forms have to be sent to Accra for processing and there is always the chance that they will get lost in the mail. Before we went to the office Steve stopped and bought a box of ink pens for the workers; just as a thank you gift. He also took a gift of office supplies to the nurses and midwives council when he renewed his nurses’ licenses.
We had to go back to the telephone office to renew the SIM cards for a couple of the cell phones. We thought they were fully registered before we left Ghana but low and behold one of them had only been partially completed and the other one was not yet in the system. Fortunately today they were able to fully renew both of them. The Ghana government has made a decree that all SIM cards have to be reregistered by March 31, 2022.
While I was sitting waiting our turn in the telephone office Steve went out to the Bible house to check and see if they had printed the new Konkomba Bible yet. There were no Bibles to be had but the lady said they hoped to have them printed later in the year.
It took 3 stops and some asking around to find a wheelchair. Our last stop was at Kentucky Fried Chicken; yes, Tamale has a “Chicken House”. They were out of chicken fingers, fried rice, special sauce, chicken sandwiches, Sprite and Fanta. At which point it is easier to ask “What do you have?” We really didn’t care because we had only had a few snacks to eat.
We are tired so I will close for now.
Take care,
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
