You guys almost did not get the Yendi Notes tonight! I forgot about writing them until it was almost time to go to bed. I usually write them before we leave for Bible Study but this evening we were finishing up the annual audit for the Child Center so we can turn it in tomorrow. For all intents and purposes we have closed the year for the Child Center because we will be leaving Yendi in 3 days. We have purchased all the supplies that the Center will need while we are gone and we have taken care of the money that has been promised for the upcoming surgeries, prosthetics and medical procedures. All the payrolls have been made for the next couple months and enough money has been left in the bank to take care of any emergencies.
Steve spent the morning running errands and paying taxes. Mr. Iddrisu did not come to work today because his back is bothering him again. He usually pays the taxes but we are not sure when he will come back to work and they needed to be paid. Paying the taxes is a pain because you have to go to the tax office, wait for them to write a receipt then go to the bank, pay and wait for them to issue a receipt, then you have to take it all back to the tax office and give them their copy of the receipt as proof of payment and wait for them to stamp and sign your copy. Please, it is just too much! At least Steve was successful and we could mark that off our list.
Steve and Nazo tried to get the tree stumps out of the pits that they dug when they were uprooting the tree stumps. They were able to get one out of the pit but the other was too big and heavy. They even tried tying it to the truck and pulling it out but they finally gave up. I think that one will be buried!
Amama did not come to work today and she will not be here tomorrow. Thursday is the day for the outdooring (baby shower type affair) for her husband’s third wife. Today is the day that they have to cook a huge amount of food and take it to all the relatives and friends’ houses. The food is their way of inviting people to come to the outdooring. If food is not prepared and presented to the family members and friends they will refuse to come to the outdooring. The best explanation we have gotten for why it is called an “outdooring” is that it is the first time the mother is allowed to bring the baby “out of doors”; the first time the baby is brought outside and into public view.
Have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
