It took us about 3 hours to get the booklets put together and all the pages repaired. We had so much trouble with the copier that some of the pages were blank and others were wrinkled. I collated while Steve made the recopies. It makes my eyes twitch just thinking about it! After we got the booklets made we decided that we needed to have something on the outside of the folders; sort of like a title page. We had sticky shipping labels so we designed a sticker to put on the front of the booklets. They ended up looking nice; we are happy to have that job completed and behind us!
Zorash decided that she does not want to go to the hospital to have the bandage on her foot changed. We gave her some Betadine, rolled gauze, 4×4 gauze, tape and some money to buy hydrogen peroxide and ointment. She said that she is not going to go back to have the stitches taken out; she is going to let her daughter who is training to be a nurse take them out for her.
Amama did not come to work this morning because her son Bassit is now sick. He is throwing up and has a fever. We figure that he has the same thing that his sister had. Amama said that they were treating her for Malaria and an ulcer. We found out that the reason the cost was so much was because they took her to the very expensive private hospital; it is the newest hospital in Yendi but everyone that goes there says that it is too costly. I guess they figure that if you want to go to a private hospital you have money! Even at the private hospital the patient has to buy their own meds, IV starter and IV solution so really what is the advantage of going to the private hospital? If we had known Amama took her to the private hospital we would not have been so quick to help her with the bill. We will know to make inquiries next time. I wonder if she took her son to the private hospital too.
We just got back from the market; today was Yendi’s big market day. We waited until 3:30 to go hoping to beat the heat. It was cooler but the market was packed; there were so many people that it was difficult to walk without bumping into someone. My dad used to say, “There are so many people in there that you cannot stir them with a stick!” As soon as we got everything that was on our list we left!
Thank you for all you do for us and for the work. We appreciate the help!

The parents decided to move a table out on the veranda this morning to work on the booklets. Made my day! They let me play outside the whole time that they were working! Donkey was raking the yard under the small mango trees between the mission house and the Child Center so I followed him down there and had a glorious time climbing in those trees. Those trees have termites in them; Mom showed me how to catch them and eat them but I am not a fan! Since Mom was not there I just ignored the termites and ate the tender baby mango leaves instead. I could only play by myself for a little while; I had to keep running back to the veranda to check on Mom! You never know about her; she could get lost if I don’t keep an eye on her! She went in the house several times to get more folders which was very disconcerting to me!
I did protect her from the doves! There is a bird bath for the birds in the front yard near the place Mom and Dad were working. When the doves came to get a drink of water I jumped into high gear and chased them off. I pretended that I was going to catch them but they still frighten me! I don’t know what I would have done with one if I had caught him! When I chased them, Mom would clap her hands and say, “Good Job! Way to go, Skeeter!” Of course that made me proud and made me want to chase another one!
No birds drinking from the bird bath on my watch!
Love, Skeeter
