Today we visited the congregation at Sobitido located south west of Yendi. This is the same area where we visited the congregation of Nalongni last week. As we were driving through Yendi to pick up Timothy Niligrini we got stuck in a traffic jam on the main street.  The culprit seemed to be some kind of political rally. It took us 10 minutes to finally get through the maze.

Timothy was very happy to get the case of canned tomato paste and the gallon of cooking oil that we are giving all the employees. He was explaining that a coke bottle of cooking oil is costing 10 Cedis. He was bemoaning the fact the price of oil had risen to the point that it was prohibitive for his family.  It only just recently came down a little.  Ghanaians eat oil in everything; yams, rice, stew, soup, and the like. They say they want to “feel” the oil in their food.  If the oil isn’t swirling on top of the soup or stew there isn’t enough in it to please them.

Due to the traffic jam and the wet gravel road we were late getting to the village. The congregation was already assembled so we went straight to preaching. I again taught about witchcraft, Juju, soothsaying, dreams, etc.   This lesson is always well received.  I explained how soothsayers and the like always want money for their services. Likewise, if you go to the Juju for an explanation of a dream you had, the Juju will make up some wild theory to get you to pay him money for his assistance.  I explained to the audience these people have no real power. I told them about the scientific trick I performed by setting a boiled egg on top of a glass bottle and sucking it whole into the bottle by putting a match inside.  I said I have no power. It is science given to us by God!

The church is in the process of putting up a concrete building and needed more cement to make the block. We were happy to help them financially so they can finish the block. They gifted us a head pan full of yams and a number of guinea eggs.

Before leaving the village we drove over to the chief’s house to greet him. We met a man sitting under the tree that is filling in for the old chief. After greeting him we were invited to go into the compound where the old chief is bed ridden and laying on the floor.  His legs won’t allow him to move and he has to have assistance to sit up.  He was happy to see us . Outside the compound we met Ben’s (a church leader) wife who is recuperating from a motorking accident on Friday. We had prayer for her and I gave her some money to get some medicine if needed.

Later this afternoon Red came by the house and delivered the offering bag frames.  He had finished all 50 of them and they were painted. We are happy to have them. We showed Timothy the sample this morning and he was very pleased. He agreed to make the cloth bags for us so we should have a nice gift to give the congregations who attend this year’s seminar.

We thank you for your prayers and support. May God bless!

In His service,

Stephen and Kandie Taylor
