The ladies that work for the Child Center were happy to see us when they came to work this morning.  The big mango tree in the front yard has lots of mangos.  As soon as the ladies got to work they started rushing around gathering mangos.  They did not get as many as they would have gotten if Steve and I had not gone and picked up a basket full before we went on our walk.  When we went to town we gave the mangos to Gomda, our friend who works on our vehicles.

There is no way that we can explain the aggravations of the tax office!  Steve and I went there first thing this morning because we were having trouble filing some of the employees’ annual returns.  It seems that some of their tax ID numbers had not been merged with their National Ghana Card numbers so the system was kicking them out.  After we got them filed there was a discrepancy in the amount of taxes they paid and the amount that was due; they should have all zero out but the returns said that the government owed them money.  We understand the problem but getting the officer to understand the problem is a whole different thing.  When we paid January’s tax the government had not yet announced the minimum wage so we paid on the 2021 schedule; when the new rate came out all the employees had to pay less than they did in January; hence the reason the government owes them.  The officer finally understood what we were saying when we compared it to this year’s tax; the government just this month announced the rate increase so next year we will have the same problem only it will be 3 months credit instead of just one.  At the end of the meeting we were told just to fill the return forms as they are.

The officer would not accept the Child Center’s annual return because they did not like that we had not filled in every space and we were advised to file an extension so our auditor/accountant would have time to fill it out for us.  Steve called the auditor and he said that it was not their job to fill out annual returns but he would consider us and fill it for us.  Hopefully he will get it done before the deadline.

While we were out this morning Steve bought a new battery for the red truck; he got it installed this afternoon.  He also unpacked several more suitcases, changed some light bulbs and put the new lens on the headlight on the newer van.  I on the other hand spent the afternoon sorting receipts and getting them ready to enter into the accounts.

Mr. Iddrisu was not at work this morning and he will not be here for the next few days because they are performing the final funeral for his mother.  They buried her the day she died but they put off doing the funeral until after the Ramadan fast was finished.  His mother died when his wife was in the hospital delivering their baby by c-section.

Have a great day!

In His service,

Steve and Kandie
