Zorash had a meeting in Tamale with her women’s farmers group. She is not a farmer but the organization that is trying to help women farm will help with any aspect of farming including harvesting and making Shea Butter, use of soybeans after a man has harvested them, and buying beans and grains at a low price when they are freshly harvested and storing them until the price goes up at the end of the dry season. Zorash works with Shea Butter; she has a contact in England that buys from her. I am sort of happy that she was not able to come to work this morning because that means she owes us a day and when she makes the day up she can help us do the touchup painting on the rest of the bicycles.
Mr. Iddrisu came back to work this morning; he is feeling fine. We sent him and Nazo to the back of the property to cut and burn the rest of the tall grass. Dawda the mason came this morning to talk about the work on the new building and for us to nail down a price. After much discussion back and forth we came to an agreement. After our discussion Dawda wanted work as a day labor today and help Nazo and Mr. Iddrisu cut the grass; they finished around lunch time.
Last night I picked and soaked soybeans overnight. When we were kids my grandmother “Mimi” used to fry soybeans for us to eat as a snack. I thought that it would be a good idea to cook some for the workers to try. People here grow soybeans but they do not eat many of them; mostly they are sold as a cash crop. The soybeans were delicious; I seasoned them with chicken bouillon, hot red pepper and curry powder. I have enough to fry again tomorrow so Zorash can try them when she comes back to work.
Divine, the evangelist / farmer from Kpamang and his wife stopped by this afternoon. They are actively working on making improvements to the school that uses the church property for a school. He wants to build a urinal and add metal desks and chairs. We are very interested in sanitation and think the urinal is a great idea. Thanks to our generous donors we were able to help with the cement and sand that they will need to make the urinal.
Thank you for everything you do for us and for the people here in Ghana.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
