The little guy that we helped with braces and a walker last year came back to the Center this morning for a visit. He is able to walk without the braces and without the walker. His mother is so happy! She brought the walker back to us so that we could use it for another child. The child is between 3 and 4 years old. Steve gave him 3 matchbox type vehicles. As soon as he got the vehicles he said “Bye-Bye”. I guess he was ready to go and wanted to make sure that he left with his cars!
Abochi and his helper came to the jobsite this afternoon and took measurements so he can figure out the amount of lumber that we will need for the rafters and how many sheets of tin we will need. It makes my eyes twitch to think about the cost of the lumber because lumber prices here have skyrocketed! We may have to make a special trip to Tamale to go to the bank once we get the estimate.
The mason’s got half of the lintel boxes made and the cement mixed and poured in them today. Mr. Iddrisu took back all but one set of the pillar boxes that we rented to make the center columns. He will take back the last set in the morning.
The vice president of Ghana is supposed to come to Yendi today and pay a visit to the Ya-naa; so the town is full of people and lots of black cars with black glass. They drive through the towns with lights flashing. Sometimes they have police escorts. The various parties have already started campaigning for presidential Election Day. One of the ways they advertise for votes is to take the mufflers off the motorcycles and run them full throttle through the middle of town. Many of the drivers are careless and cause accidents.
I only made one trip to the jobsite today! Happy day! Now Steve made numerous trips back and forth buying lumber, checking on their progress and passing out chop (lunch) money. Zorash was not here again today so I manned the Child Center until it was time to cook lunch then Steve took over.
Please keep us and work in your prayers especially as we are working on the training center.
In HIS Service,
Steve and Kandie
