Today was the monthly class. I don’t normally go out to the class but today was a special day! Today was the day that we distributed the special satchels that Ms. Roberta made for the men. The bags are beautiful. Each one has “Church of Christ” embroidered on the front flap; there are places inside for pens and tablets and a zipper pocket for money and valuables! The men were so happy with the bags! Timothy Niligrini is not only an evangelist but he is also a tailor. When he saw the bags he said, “You know I am going to copy the design!” Timothy makes back packs and he is going to add men’s satchels to his inventory! We took pictures of the proud men with their bags when the men took their lunch break.
While I was at the class I sat outside under a shade tree and distributed the satchels and wrote the men’s names on the inside of the bags so there would be no confusion as to which bag belonged to which man. We know that the men will bring them with them to the seminar when they attend next month. Steve had packed the satchels with this month’s class material for the children and the Konkomba lessons on Men and Women’s Roles. I also sold the communion juice and gave the men their transport for coming to class. I did not stay around for the afternoon session of the class; I came back to the mission house and cooked lunch. We did not get to eat until almost 3:00.
When we were in Tamale last week we bought a small portable power sprayer. I needed it to help clean the monkey cage; from time to time poop gets stuck on the bars at the bottom of the cage and I don’t like the thought of Skeeter walking in it; hence the reason he gets his hands, feet and tail sanitized when he comes into the house. Steve got it unboxed and hooked up this afternoon. It did a good job of cleaning his cage; and it made me happy!
Divine called and said that he needed to collect some of the money that we will be giving him when we buy his pigs for the seminar. We don’t buy the pigs outright because if they die we will lose our money so we just loan him the money against the sale of the pigs. He is helping send his nephew to school. His nephew came with him to the mission house. Divine said that on the way into Yendi he got a phone call from his brother’s family to let him know that his brother died. He said that he was confused about the death because his brother was not sick and he was not old and he did not have any health problems. He said that the brother who died was the father of his nephew that he was helping go to school and that he had not told the boy yet because he wanted to get more information about how and why he died. Later this afternoon Divine called and said that his brother had gone to the river to fish and had drowned. So sad and so unexpected!
The weekend is upon us! Enjoy yours!

I got into trouble today but then what is new about that? I am always getting in trouble. It was not really my fault! This afternoon while Mom was sewing Dad got some money out of his fanny pack/ cross bag or whatever they call that thing. He left the bag on the bed and he forgot to zip the bag. When I noticed the bag was open I had to investigate! At first I only pulled out one piece of money; then I pulled another and another and another until I had almost empty the whole bag! After the money was on the bed I could not help but jump and roll around on it! I was RICH! I was enjoying myself immensely! Mom noticed that I was being very quiet and stopped sewing to see what I was doing; that was when I knew I was going to be in trouble with Dad! Mom quickly grabbed the camera and took a video of my mess! I guess she wanted evidence to use against me!
When the parents went for their walk this morning Dad caught a huge grasshopper! Here we go again with eating bugs! This thing was big enough that it could bite me! I refused to pick it up and eat it by myself so Mom held it and I pulled off the back legs and ate them first; then I ate the stomach but I completely refused to eat the head! Mom put the remains in my food bowl; I just ignored the rest of it; it was mostly wings anyway and I draw the line at eating wings!
Let’s eat fruit!
Love, Skeeter
