Tichak, one of the night watchmen harvested his peanuts today so he brought some to work tonight and gave them to us for a gift.  Isn’t that sweet?  These people are so kind to us.  They have very little yet they want to share.  They do not call peanuts “peanuts”. They call them groundnuts which actually makes more sense because they grow underground, not on the top of the plant like other peas do.  As is the custom Steve gave Tichak a small monetary gift for the peanuts to show how much we appreciated the gift.

We made several trips to town today and on our second trip we saw Zorash.  She was buying a 100 pound bag of rice.  When we met her she was in the process of trying to get the bag of rice to balance on the back of her motorcycle.  We volunteered to take the rice to her house; she was happy for the help because if the load is not balanced well it is difficult to ride and there is always a chance that the load would shift and fall off spilling rice all over the road.  I told Zorash that I had thought about calling her today to see if she was busy because I needed her to go town with me to find a black piece of cotton fabric.  She said she was not busy so we went in search of the fabric.  It did not take long to find it.

This afternoon I washed one of the pieces of fabric and was thinking of washing the other one when we heard it thundering.  The rain held off until the first washing was dry; it does not take long to dry if the wind is blowing.

Steve rebuilt 2 church benches today and he also trimmed up a couple of the trees that were hanging over the sidewalk making it difficult to pass the trees and stay on the sidewalk.

After last night’s heavy rain we noticed several low spots in the gravel yard that were holding water so we had Donkey fill them with more gravel.  We try to keep a pile of gravel on the property just to fill in where the erosion washes the gravel out.  The new dam that Dawda made a couple days ago did very well in diverting the water into the new gutter system.

The electricity was off most of the night last night and it was off again this afternoon; we are so thankful that we have a generator!

Red stopped by this afternoon because he wanted us to give him a pair of red rubber elbow length gloves; mostly they are used when someone is spraying chemical in their farm.  Red planted several acres of corn this year.  He was out of luck because we had given my pair of gloves to Donkey last week when he was spraying the mission property and the only pair we had left was Steve’s; he will need them when he sprays for mosquitoes.

Enjoy your day!

In HIS Service,

Steve and Kandie
