Mr. Iddrisu was appalled when he came to work this morning and found out that we were going to have to pull down part of the wall so that the people could see around the corner. He had never heard of anyone having to pull down a wall that was built on their own property. Nazo did his best to explain what the problem was and how the community deemed it to be a hazard to drivers. He was happy when he thought the wall project was behind us! I will have to put sachets of water in the freezer so the masons and those pulling down the wall will have cold water to drink. They will need it if the temperatures continue to be as high as they were yesterday and today. The high temperature for today was 109 degrees with a heat index of 115 degrees.
It took me and Steve a couple hours to get the truck ready for our trip tomorrow. We are going to visit Nana Bekum. He is the evangelist that works with 6 congregations up in the Chereponi area. We are taking bicycles to the church leaders of the churches. The road to Nana’s place is awful! Most of it is just dirt and potholes! Steve wanted to make sure that the bikes were well secured in the bed of the truck. These bikes have a kick stand that comes down on both sides of the rear tire and actually keeps the tire off the ground. We put a couple long boards in the bottom of the truck and screwed the kick stands to the board; then the front wheels of the bikes were secured to the roll bar with strips of cut up inner tubes. They seem secure to me. Steve forgot to check the spare tire before we loaded and tied the bicycles. The spare tire needed air. It rides underneath the bed of the truck; attached to the frame of the truck with a chain. A rod is inserted through a small hole just under the tailgate and the tire has to be rolled down and taken off the chain. To get all the bicycles in the truck we had to leave the tailgate down. It took some finagling around and muscle (Steve’s not mine) to raise the tailgate enough to get the tire down so we could air it up. We would have left it in the bed of the truck but there was no room so we had to repeat the process.
Quite a few mangoes fell while we were working; we picked them up to give to Timothy when he comes tomorrow to go to Chereponi with us. One of his mango trees died so he and his family will enjoy them.
Steve is outside finishing up getting the truck ready for tomorrow. When we go on these long trips he likes to make sure that we have extra water, rope, a jack and a bag of tools. We would hate to be stranded with nothing!
Thank you so much for your help!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
