My day started at 5:40am. I had caught the bug. If you read yesterday’s notes you know Lindsay was sick. I guess it was my turn. But thanks to some Lomotil and Sprite I was feeling well enough to go to church.

The car saga continues, we planned on taking the old van to church but, the tire was flat. That is number 4 in a week. Timothy met us at the house and we loaded up for church in the newer van. We stopped on the way to buy him some breakfast. He got some Brofrot and porridge. He ate it on the way to church. We were headed to Nakpachee. We also stopped for Jordan to buy soccer balls for the rest of the churches. They didn’t have the kinds Jordan wanted, so he ordered 3 of the very nicest soccer balls. We were to stop and pick them up on the way back from church.

Church was uneventful. Gander did a class on marriage where polygamy was brought up surprise…Then Jordan preached on doing good works. There were a group of kids lying on the floor. Some were asleep but a few found their way over to Lindsay. They would touch her arms, run off, and giggle then a different child would run over. They thought it was great fun!

After church the congregation gifted us yams and a guinea fowl (alive). Jordan then gave the soccer ball to the youth. Everyone smiled but no one jumped for joy. They said they were very happy but they would never jubilate in the church building, but when they went outside they would. One of the men said that because of the fine soccer ball one of the kids would be able to make it to the World Cup.

We took pictures of the church and they took pictures with us. We loaded up the yams and guinea fowl, which we would give to Timothy. He said Rita (his wife) would be very happy to see him come home.

On the way home we stopped off and picked up the soccer balls for Jordan. Timothy saw Jordan trying to cross the road. He took pity on him. He jumped out of the van, carrying his guinea fowl to help him.

When we got home Goosie had lunch ready. We had a very delicious meal and my new favorite food. She cooked cauliflower leaves and the tough outer leaves of cabbage. I put Tabasco sauce and pinto beans with the leaves. I think the combination is quite delicious.

We then got ready for VBS.  It began to thunder with intense winds, and we were afraid it was going to rain. If it rained no one would come out to VBS. It cooled down. We were thankful because it was 107 degrees with a heat index of 122 degrees. We knew there was no shade at Kpamang.

VBS was interesting.  We had a new interpreter, Lydia, and she did not understand our English very well. It wasn’t until we were asking questions that we figured out she didn’t understand some words like Princess, king, basket. These are important to the story of Moses.  Once we got through the communication barriers the kids were able to understand.

Then it was time to color. After having VBS at Jegrido we had a system in place. Jordan shortened his lesson to allow the adults to come and color. Once again they were all very proud of their coloring.

We packed everything up as well as 4 extra people. We gave a mother and her three kids a lift back to Yendi. They were very thankful for the ride. But I think the little boys were a slight bit frightened.

By the time we got home the wind had really picked up and it was thundering even more. The electricity had gone out while at VBS. Gander turned on the generator and we sat in the living room talking about our day. Timothy called at 6:10pm to say church was cancelled because it was raining at Sobitido. We never got any rain but it was cooled off to a nice 90 degrees. In comparison that feels very pleasant.

Goosie , Lindsay, and mom made pizza sandwiches, homemade marinara sauce, and freshly cut pineapple and mango. They were very delicious, per usual.
