We didn’t go to the bush today because we were asked to attend worship at Kulkpeni. One of the sisters who attends there wanted me to speak for the naming ceremony after services for her infant son. I always love doing naming ceremonies so I was glad to oblige the request.
Before going out to Kulkpeni I noticed the area east of Yendi had some darkening clouds like it does when a storm is approaching. The cloud cover had a cooling effect on everything outside. Midway through the bible class it started to rain on that big tin roof which made it quite hard to hear the men speaking. Don’t get me wrong, we were glad to get the rain but in the 23 years we have lived here I can’t remember when it has rained this late in November.
After services we held the naming ceremony. The infant boy is about 2-3 months old but boy was he a chunk; not fat but just healthy. The parents had chosen the English name of “Naakoja Paul” and the Konkomba name is “Ngnabinba” meaning “what have I done”. I related the account of Manoah and his wife asking the angel in Judges 13 what they must do to train up the child who would become Samson.
A group of us consisting of Tichak, Matthew Unidon, Timothy Niligrini, Kandie, and myself stood outside going over how things went during the seminar. The men were very surprised to find out how much money it takes to put on the seminar. Kandie had found our first seminar program that took place in 2007 which she showed the men. Sad to say several of the men on that program have passed away while many others have left the church altogether.
Later in the afternoon Timothy Niligrini came to the house to pick up a guinea fowl and some yams that had been presented to us by a man who came to the seminar. We also had some rice and oil to give to him as an employee gift for the holiday season.
The masons have the floor leveled with gravel as of the end of today . Dawda , the mason, said he hopes to finish the floor tomorrow and Tuesday at the latest. That’s good news for us because we have to get all the receipts prepared to take to the auditor in Tamale later this week.
That takes care of what has happened around here today. Hope you’re not over stuffed with turkey and ham but that you enjoyed the holiday.
Have a good day and may God bless you and our country!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
