Steve got the new TV hung this afternoon; it is a smart TV and the only thing I have to say about smart TVs and smart phones is that they are only as smart as the operator and we are not very smart.  It is supposed to run through the new Starlink internet system which it does but all we really use the TV for is to play DVDs.  We are struggling to get the DVD player working.  Of course nothing comes with directions!  Really are these third world problems or what?

This morning when the Child Center closed Zorash and I went to the market to talk to the lady who ordered the baby formula.  Well, it still has not come in; she said she will call us when the truck arrives.  We are worried that her supplier is going to fail her too.  There is another brand on the market which is almost twice the price.  We may have to resort to buying some of it but we would only give it to the older children because changing the small babies’ formula can mess with their stomachs.

While we were in the market we bought a few food items that I needed and Zorash bought green leaves, fresh tomatoes and onions for the meals she will prepare this weekend.  I did not realize that today was Yendi’s big market day until I saw all the people in the market!  They were everywhere!  The market was not only choked with people but motorcycle riders and motor kings were trying to carry goods in and out of the market!  It did not take us long to get what we needed and get out; it was so hot today and the crush of people made it seem even hotter!

Today is payday for the workers.  They love a payday that falls on Yendi’s big market day!  They have a little extra money to buy something special.

A new mother with triplets came to the Center this morning.  The babies are doing well and all of them are gaining.  The mother came with a couple of her sisters; they needed a lady to carry each of the babies.  The babies are all boys.  We gave them some baby clothes; the mother was happy to get the small clothes.  Small baby clothes are hard to find here in Ghana.  We also gave them matching crocheted baby hats; so cute!

Steve ordered 3,000 sachets of water this morning.  Each sachet holds about 2 cups of water.  It is the custom to offer anyone who comes to visit drinking water.  We have a small refrigerator in the tool shed so we can keep the water cold for our guests.  Of course the workers drink cold water all day long!  In this heat we go through lots of water.

Our neighbor, Mr. Oldman, said that he wants to dig a cement pond and raise Tilapia to eat and sell.  He said that he talked to someone who is raising them but he has not seen his operation yet.  We asked if the guy had a filtering system or an aerator; he said that he did not think he had either.  I can imagine the ammonia building up very quickly!  I wonder how much heat the fish can stand.  We wished him good luck on the project.

Enjoy your day!

The Monkeyshines

Today was a good day!  I actually have nothing to complain about!  As soon as the parents got back from their walk this morning I got released on good behavior and played in the trees for a couple hours.  When Mom started sewing she brought me inside with her and I played in the air conditioned room.  Sometimes the room is rather chilly; that is why I like to wear my shirt!

I am learning to catch.  I am actually pretty good at it if I am not trying to show off my “MOVES”!  Yes, I have “MOVES”.  Mom throws small stuffed animals to me.  I can jump up and catch them but when I want to show out I jump up high and kick the stuffed animal with my hind feet and send it flying across the room!  Mom likes me to just nicely catch the animals but what fun is there in that?  I have also learned to throw the animals up in the air and catch them myself.  I only do that when I am being ignored and have to do something to keep myself busy.

I think I will be the next “Babe Ruth”!

Love, Skeeter
