Our day started early. Timothy Niligrini was here at 7am as planned so we could leave for the Chereponi area where Nana Bekum lives and works with 6 congregations. Depending on road conditions it is a 2.5-3 hour trip one way. Today we had the 5 bicycles in the back of the pickup to give to the church leaders. I took my time driving because I didn’t want to upset my load. All of our work securing the bikes in the truck bed yesterday paid off.
It was a hot ride to the village today. The temperature here at the compound was 105 degrees with a heat index of 115 degrees. Kandie and I were drinking water like a fish! Even Timothy was drinking water today. We drive with the windows down.
We arrived on time at the village of Tumpondi; representatives from 5 other congregations were in attendance. The people had made a small pavilion from zanna mats; thick woven grass mats. The ladies sat under the pavilion while the three of us along with the men sat under a sparsely limbed tree. There was a soft hot breeze blowing which made our seating location almost tolerable. I preached about Christ’s return to encourage the audience of believers.
After services we looked at their small church building to see what it needed in the way of repairs. They requested help with some cement to fix the apron around the building that has eroded from the rains. The plastering on the outside was also peeling badly so we helped them to buy three bags of cement and they will provide the sand. We also distributed the bicycles to the church leaders. They were also pleased to receive the other items we usually give as gifts like: juice, bread, pad and pen, disinfectant, & cups.
We were served a lunch of tomato stew over rice with some fried chicken backs. It was quite good but full of small rocks. Before going we greeted the chief who was in attendance and we also gave a small monetary gift to 8 women that cooked the meal for everyone. There were 45 adults and 35 children attending.
We left around 1:45 this afternoon and we arrived back to the compound around 3:30. All of us were beat from the heat.
At Kulkpeni tonight we had over 15 smaller children attending. It reminded me when I used to teach a class with puppets for kids after services at Bethel.
Have a good Lord’s Day. May God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
