We finally got Mr. Iddrisu to the eye doctor this morning. The man seems like he is almost blind. He kept asking for stronger and stronger reading glasses which we could not imagine that he needed. He is near-sighted too, but seriously, he cannot even see well enough to read the baby scale at the Child Center. Nazo rode with him on his motorcycle and Nazo said that he was scared to death! Nazo is usually oblivious to things going on around him so for him to be scared it must have been bad! A few weeks ago Red went to the eye doctor and got bifocals which he loves! He enjoys seeing! Mr. Iddrisu needs cataract surgery. Every so often a team of specialists comes to Yendi. They are scheduled to come in late June. The doctor put Mr. Iddrisu’s name on the list. His health insurance will pay for most of the cost. He needs both eyes done but they are going to do the worst eye first which also has a scratch which he got when he was walking through his field and a blade of corn struck his eye. The doctor said that he cannot see anything with that eye. After the surgery he is not supposed to bend over or pick up anything for 2 weeks.
Red came this morning to spray paint the lower parts of the metal grates we put in the wall to allow the water to pass through. His air compressor runs on electricity. Our small generator was not strong enough to use his compressor so he borrowed our gasoline air compressor. Nothing is ever easy; the hose on his air compressor did not match the air compressor on his so we had to rig up a means of making them compatible which involved lots of tape, small pipe clamps, banding wire and a little good fortune. It worked and he got the job done!
Red is not hauling sand and gravel right now because of the rain so he wants us to give him the job of making the metal doors and windows for the building we will be erecting the next time we come to Ghana. We told him we would have to count the money to see if we had enough to advance him for the project; we don’t want to have to go back to Tamale to get more money!
Today was the monthly preachers and evangelists class. They are still talking about marriage and the man’s responsibility to his wife. Steve said that everyone enjoyed the class and that they had loads of discussion and questions. Steve printed out the next 2 lessons in the series for Timothy to teach while we are gone.
Thank you for all you do; have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
