The very low weight 9 month old came back today and we were so happy that he had gained weight. Last time he came he weighed 3.6 kilos and today he weighed in at 4.2 kilos. We praised and praised the mother for her efforts because once these children get so low they are very difficult to feed because they are so weak that they have no desire to put forth the effort that it takes to eat.
Red came first thing this morning to get the pickup truck so he and Nazo could haul the cement that we bought from him. When Red has extra money he buys cement and makes blocks. This is sort of his way of investing his money. We bought the cement blocks that we are using on the new building project from him.
The motor king broke down this afternoon. Steve had to go to town and get a mechanic to come and fix it. It did not take him very long and it is back up and running. As we were leaving the jobsite in the green pickup after we had paid the day labors we heard a belt squeal and smelt something burning. In a few seconds Steve said that the power steering was gone. The pump must have burned the bearings because Steve could find no evidence of a leak. To the shop it must go! It is a bad time to be without a truck but at least the motor king is up and running again.
Eighteen people were working on the job this morning. Eighteen people that are working in the hot sun can drink a whole lot of water. We have a big cooler and we had to refill it in the middle of the afternoon. By the way they are guzzling the water that is supposed to taste bad. I guess if you are thirsty it tastes pretty good! Of the people working today 3 of them were working on the rebar forms for the pillars and headers. Today we had 4 ladies working; Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo’s wives were amongst them. The ladies haul the cement and water around the jobsite. They do not get paid as much as the men; they might not work as hard as the men but the work is still hard.
Steve and I spent our spare time today cleaning and painting bikes. We had hoped that Zorash would be back today so she could help us paint but she did not get back to Yendi in time to come to work. We wanted to give the bikes out at this month’s classes but we are not sure that we will get them ready by Friday.
Thank you for everything!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
