We were woken up this morning by the phone ringing. Tichak, the night watchman said that he was at the gate. We were surprised because he has a key and can get in whenever he wants to. When we went to the gate to let him in he was all smiles; he said that he had brought us a gift. He took a tow sack off of his motorcycle and showed us some very big fish. He said that he had been fishing during the night last night and that he wanted to share his catch with us. The fish were tropical fish; just like you see in the pet stores in the states; the ones that have the elephant looking nose. Who knew that they could grow as long as your arm? It was so sweet of Tichak to share his fish with us; he could have sold the fish but instead he wanted to share with us. When the ladies came to work we re-gifted the fish to them; they were thrilled. Amama cleaned them and cut them up; she then wanted to put them in the refrigerator. They were not going in our refrigerator because they stunk! We told her to put them in the worker’s refrigerator; we told her to put them in the freezer section and they would be fine until they went home.
Donkey and Mr. Iddrisu came to the mission house at 7:00 this morning to get the money that they were taking to the various chiefs in our area. Mr. Iddrisu said that he had forgotten to tell us we needed an envelope of money to give to the Ya-Na’s elders. While they were counting the money we fixed up yet another envelope. About an hour and a half later they came back; they had delivered the money and as the tradition has it when money is presented the one that brings the money is given money to take back to the original person that gave the gift. This is their way of checks and balances to make sure the money actually goes where it is supposed to go. Each of the chiefs sent money back to us which we re-gifted to Donkey and Mr. Iddrisu.
Timothy Niligrini just left a few minutes ago. He finished translating lesson #9 of the material that Steve compiled to teach the monthly class. Timothy is so excited about getting the lesson translated so more of the men can read the material. Steve is in the process of getting the lessons printed because the class is at the end of the week but he is having a difficult time with the copy machine. It keeps jamming the paper. He has the air compressor after the copier at the moment. Maybe that will help.
It is almost time for Wednesday Bible study so I will close for now. Have a great day!
In HIS Service,
Steve and Kandie
