Steve wanted to go for our walk this morning. I did not because I thought that 4 hours of cutting wood and hauling brush was enough exercise for any normal human being! According to Steve, “walking for your heart is different than exercising and working hard.” Needless to say I walked with him. As we were coming down the lane to the mission house we met our friend Shaibu Adams; he wanted to know if we would change Cedis into dollars for him so he could pay for his son’s school fees. His son is studying in Accra to be a doctor. We told him that the Ghana government has come out with new regulations that say no one can give dollars to any Ghanaian and no one can pay for goods or services with dollars unless they have a special account approved through the government. Ghana thinks this will cut down on money laundering and the Child Center has had to put a money laundering officer in place. We hated to tell him no but we did not want to intentionally do anything that could get us in trouble.
Godfred, one of the school teachers came to the mission house with an invitation to attend his wedding. He has been married for at least 15 years but they have never had a “real” wedding in a church building. This is something that is becoming popular in Ghana. The wedding is going to be in the town of Ho in the Volta Region of Ghana. It is a long way from Yendi so we just gave him an envelope with a monetary gift.
We worked on the wood for a couple hours and let me tell you we are really enjoying the electric chainsaw. This chainsaw was given to us by our brother-in-law Charlie. It works like a dream! If anyone is thinking about getting a chainsaw, electric is the way to go. This one is not battery operated, it plugs in; imagine no mixing of gas and oil, no plugs to file out; just plug it in and you are ready to work. Of course it uses bar oil and the chain has to be sharpened or changed periodically but we love it. After we worked for a while we came in the house to eat breakfast and then went back out. It was so hot today; at 10:00 it was 98 degrees with humidity of 46% which made a heat index of 107 degrees. Since we had cut the branches off the trees we were working in the full sun.
Timothy, the evangelist came this afternoon. He had to have new pistons and rings put in his motorcycle. We pay to keep his motorcycle up and running; it is a perk of his job. He came to get the money for the repairs.
Steve is outside blowing off the patio under the big mango tree. We miss having our workers here; but I guess they deserve their time off.
Our son Aaron was able to sleep a little bit last night so maybe the worst of the back surgery is behind him. Thank you for the prayers.
In His service,
Steve and Kandie
