When we went to the GRA tax office this morning the network was still down; this is the 3rd day that the network has been down. Since the network was down they had not been able to do anything with the annual returns. We wanted to know if we should file for an extension; we were told that we would not be assessed penalties because we were actively trying to file and the network was down. We were happy about that but part of us does not believe them!
Steve was excited when he sat at the computer this afternoon and tried to file his return on line and it actually went somewhere! Evidently the network was working again! Hurrah! After Steve successfully submitted his and was able to print the certificate receipt he started working on the employees returns. He was rushing because he did not know how long the network would keep working. He finished all that he could only to realize that GRA was sending everyone a bill for taxes that needed to be paid. When the GRA officer filled out the sample form he did not fill it out completely. When I noticed the problem and brought it to his attention he said that “Amount Due” did not really mean that anything was owed; it was just a statement of fact letting us know how much we had paid! Excuse me! As soon as we realized that it was trying to charge the workers Steve went back in and found a place to enter the amount of taxes paid. After that they all came to 0.00 GH due. Hopefully tomorrow they can add the new phone numbers to Nazo’s, Amama’s and mine. Steve will also have to help the evangelist fill out their forms tomorrow. We may beat the deadline yet!!!
We give sunscreen to the albinos that live in our area. We don’t always see the kids; usually a family member brings the card and we send them enough sunscreen to last several months. One family has 2 albino children and another one has 3. The rest only have one in each family. We give sunscreen to albino adults too. If the kids come we will give them ball caps.
Nazo brought his son, Zimblim, to the mission house this morning. The boy is about 8 years old. He has a terrible rash! It is open blisters all up and down his arms and legs. This is not the first time he has had this rash! Nazo did not have any money to send him to the hospital. Steve told him to take him to the “Disease Control” office instead of the hospital. They gave him an injection and some ointment. He is supposed to come back next week and get another injection. We have no idea what is wrong with him. Steve wonders if he is allergic to something or if he got into something like poison ivy. The doctors don’t tell the patients anything.
Thank you for the prayers!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
