THE YENDI NOTES BY: Evan Holladay
Today, which is Friday, March 28, 2025 we did many things starting at 8:00; Goosie/Kandie and I had already made the decision to have egg sandwiches for breakfast so that is what we had; egg sandwiches and toast yum! After we ate, my dad Marcus, and Gander/Steve went to the Kulkpeni church of Christ where Dad and I taught the fellow evangelists and church leaders. Dad talked about the right church and I talked about how Isaac found the right partner that was given to him by God. We gave the evangelist/church leaders bicycle tires and tubes.
After the lessons we opened the class up for questions and discussion and they were jumping at the chance to ask us their questions about wedding dowries and about why good people seem to suffer but bad people seem to prosper. After the session was over we took some of the men to town.
Then me, my dad and Gander came back to the mission house and ate “lupper” which is lunch and supper together. Today we had my favorite tuna salad and bread. It was delicious and compliments to the chef, which was of course Goosie or Sister Kandie.
After we ate, my dad and I and Goosie took some well deserved rest time as it was so hot at 3:00pm it was 108 outside with a heat index of 121 degrees. After we rested we got back in the truck and went to the village of Yowando and we had a great time there. We had a Bible study and dad did the lesson. He did a great job and it was again on what the real church looks like. After the service we gifted the local congregation with a soccer ball and the best part of doing it is when you get to see the eyes of the children light up and it brings joy to my heart every time I see them. Afterward we went back to Yendi, picked up some bread and water and that is what my day was like.

The Monkeyshines
I am going to have to try to behave better tomorrow because I failed miserably today! I know that yesterday I promised to be kinder to my brother Marcus and my nephew Evan but something came over me and I made a bruise on Evan’s arm. I was in a very grumpy mood today! Later in the day I apologized to Evan and gave him the tiniest “monkey kiss” but that was short lived because I dropped the chewing gum Marcus gave me in Evan’s lap and I just knew he was going to pick it up and start chewing it so I grabbed his T-shirt and shook it about!
Mom even put my bell on my belt! I like the bell but it makes me feel shy. It is a brass bell and when I am wearing it I find it difficult to jump around because I try to carry it in one hand and that only leaves 3 legs to get around on. I usually behave very well when she puts on the bell but today I was still “a rowdy rue”!
The best part of the day was having Mom all to myself! The guys left and were gone all morning and part of the afternoon. Mom sewed and I played with my toys between taking naps. Of course the naps were taken inside Mom’s shirt.
Mom made tuna salad today; she gave me some of the tuna fish which I quickly rejected but I thought the boiled egg whites were pretty good. But once again I have to ask, “Are fish and eggs part of a normal monkey’s diet?” I think not!
As soon as Marcus got to the mission house I climbed up in his arms because they brought strangers home with them; I felt certain that Marcus could protect me if things got out of hand!
Mom says I have to play nice tomorrow! I will try!
Love, Skeeter
