We left Yendi this morning on time (5:30) and Red was ready and waiting for us when we got to his house to pick him up. He even remembered his driver’s license this time. That was a good start to the day.
We got to Tamale about 30 minutes before it was time to check in. The plane was on time and we had no trouble getting our luggage checked in. While we were waiting to go through security I pulled out a new set of fingernail clippers. Steve looked at them and noticed that there was a knife hidden inside the nail clippers. He said, “They are not going to let you take those on the plane!” I said they will if there is no knife attached. I proceeded to bend the knife until it popped off. Steve quickly pitched the knife into the garbage and we were all set to fly!
The van driver we hired to take us to change money and to the apartment / hotel was sitting outside the airport when we came out. It is always nice to see a familiar face.
It was hot today but it is not as hot here in Accra as it is in Tamale. Accra actually got a good rain 3 days ago. Accra is on the ocean and they get more rain than we do in Yendi. The southern part of Ghana can actually grow two corn crops a year. We were surprised but happy when we saw fresh charcoal roasted corn being sold by a vendor near the apartment that we are staying in. Of course we had to buy some! We also bought some tangerines and a roasted peanut and field corn mix to have for a snack while we are shopping tomorrow. Yes! There is shopping in my future! Actually Steve took me to the cultural center this afternoon where the carvers, weavers and bead vendors are selling their wares. I bought a couple things. Steve bought a very cool walking stick that has a brass tip and handle. Steve very seldom finds anything he wants to buy.
We walked to a little pizza shop before Bible service this evening. Hope you had a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
