Yesterday afternoon we went around to the employees’ houses and gave them a farming gift. This is something that we have been doing for a number of years. It was started to help the workers have something to help with whatever they needed for the farm whether it be fertilizer, seeds or plowing. We were told that the farming gift came at the perfect time this year because the fasting is going to be over either Sunday or Monday and they can use the farming gift to buy meat to eat when they break their fast. So much for helping with farming! Steve gave the evangelists their farming gift today when he paid them; of course they were pleased to have the extra money.
Night before last we got a big rain! We needed it! The temperature dropped drastically. The high on Tuesday was 103 degrees and on Wednesday morning the low was 71 degrees. Oh! The number of winter coats we saw! The motorcycle riders were all bundled up! It is still a little cooler today and when Nana Bekum, the evangelist from the Chereponi area came to class he was wearing a heavy winter coat and he wore it all day. The high today was 97 degrees with a heat index of 113 degrees because the humidity is so high after the rain.
Steve said that the class went very well today with 27 men attending. The topic today was “The Husband’s Responsibility to His Wife”. Steve said there was so much discussion and so many questions. Of course in this male dominated society some of the stuff Steve brought out was a little hard for them to swallow!
Red finished my spice/condiment shelf and spray painted it a terra cotta red color which matched the kitchen perfectly. Red was very proud of the shelf and he had to be the one to install it on the island. He helped me put some of the containers on the shelf.
Steve did not eat lunch with the evangelists and church leaders today; he did not finish with the class until after 3:00. He was pretty much starved when he got back to the mission house so we had an early supper! Earlier in the day I made a bread pudding out of all the leftover pieces of bread and toast.
We went back to the GRA office at 8:00 this morning; we were there before most of the workers. We were able to file the annual returns for 2 more of the employees. We only have 2 employees left to file and mine. The officer promised that he would have the new phone numbers entered today but he failed us!
Please keep us and the churches in your prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
