We got up far too early this morning! Not too early to get to the airport on time but far too early for my enjoyment. We got up at 5:30. We did not know how long it would take at that time of the morning to catch a taxi but we were fortunate that we only had to wait a few minutes before one stopped. We could have called Bismark, the guy that has a van that we hire when we have tons of luggage, but he is rather expensive. We only had a couple of carry-on bags today and you know how cheap I am! I enjoyed knowing we were paying less for the trip to the airport!
It only takes about 30 minutes to fly from Accra to Takoradi. Once we got to Takoradi we had no idea where we were going or where the hotel is located. We were at Bro. Joshua’s mercy. Bro. Joshua is the coordinator for the seminar. Steve had to rely on him to get a hotel for us to stay in for the next 3 nights. We were very apprehensive when he called to say he had reserved a hotel that only cost 152 Cedis = $15.20 (15 dollars and 20 cents) a night! Steve called him back and asked if the amount he quoted was in Cedis or Dollars. It was Cedis. We were surprised that the hotel was better than we expected. In the past we have stayed in places that are far worse than this one! We do not have to share a bathroom with other occupants as we have had to before; this hotel has air conditioning and running water. We had to buy a new light bulb for the room because the light was a blue mood light! We could not see anything. We brought our own sheets and towels just in case. We will be using the sheets because they only have a fitted sheet on the mattress.
Bro. Joshua came to the airport to pick us up after he talked to the taxi driver and found out how much he was going to overcharge us to take us to the hotel. This is the first time we met Bro. Joshua; he is a very nice man. Before he took us to the hotel he took us to the school where the seminar is being held and then he took us on a tour of the Bible College.
The seminar did not start until 2:00 this afternoon so we hired a taxi to take us into town to get something to eat and to look for somewhere to do some shopping. Shopping is my one weakness! Ha! The taxi driver was a nice guy so we got his phone number. We can use him over the next few days to take us to and from the seminar.
We ate supper with the other folks that were attending the seminar. The ladies prepared a variety of food. We chose the fried chicken and Ampasee which is boiled yams with Shito (a hot pepper sauce). The lady that took our order was surprised that we even knew what Ampasee was, much less that we liked it. She thought we would choose the fried rice!
We met up with Divine, Timothy and Francis. The theme of the lectureship is “Choose for Yourself Who You Will ServeToday”. There were 3 speakers and 4 lectures this afternoon.
Keep praying for us as we are traveling!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
