We distributed bicycles this morning.  To make the distribution fair and to speed things up we put a number on each bicycle and then the men drew a number out of a can.  The number they drew was the number of the bicycle they received.  Twenty-five men received a bicycle; they were very happy with the gift.  We gave them some extra transport money to get the bicycles back to their villages.  Some of the men rode their bikes home; others put them on the market car and some tied them to their bicycles and pulled them home.  Those that rode or pulled them home had a little extra money in their pockets today.  We still have 15 or 16 bicycles to give out.  Word will go out quickly and those that did not get one this month will be sure to come to class next month to get theirs.  Shortly after the men left the mission house with their new bicycles Timothy got a call from one of the men; the back sprocket on his new “used” bicycle had a fault.  Steve told him to get it fixed and we would replace the money he spent.

The masons put up the veranda pillars today and they finished the headers over the doors and windows.  The building is looking good.  The clutch went out on the motor king this morning.  This is either the third or fourth clutch that we have had to put in it.  Mr. Iddrisu rides the clutch and uses it like a brake instead of gearing down.  We have tried to explain the problem to him, the mechanic has tried to explain the problem and Red has tried to explain the problem but it seems that once the habit is set it is hard to change.

Solomon, the motorcycle mechanic made a “house call” this morning, actually a field call because the motor king was in the back field when the clutch went out.  Solomon does not normally work on Friday but he made an exception today.  Of course he was well compensated for helping us fix it.  We would have been lost without it; especially since today was the monthly evangelists’ / church leaders’ class and Steve was out of pocket most of the day.  Mr. Iddrisu used the motor king to get cement, pillar forms, lumber and keep the cooler filled with drinking water.  Today was supposed to be one of Mr. Iddrisu’s days off; he was happy to work because he needed the extra money.

Have a wonderful day!

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
