We were surprised that Amama came to work today considering that her daughter has been so ill.  Amama said that she was feeling much better so hopefully the new medicine is working!  We were happy to see her!

Today, a strange abandoned baby case came to the Center.  The 5 month old baby girl was brought by her maternal grandmother and her uncle.  The uncle and the baby’s mother are twins.  The mother is a young first time mother who is not married.  The mother has a boyfriend who is living outside of the country.  He has been abroad for 2 years.  When the girl became pregnant she denied that she was pregnant.  Her mother took her to the hospital where the pregnancy was confirmed; still she denied that she was pregnant.  The doctor did a scan as future proof that she was pregnant.  Still the girl refused to admit she was pregnant or name the father of her child.  After she delivered the baby she could no longer deny it.  When the family demanded to know who the father was she named her boy friend who she has not seen in 2 years.  When the family contacted him he told the girl to stop lying and to name the real father because there was no way it was his child.  The girl then named a man that lives in Gushegu.  The girl went to the accused man’s family’s house in Gushegu and stayed there all the while saying he was the father.  The accused family got fed up with the girl and gave her transport money to go back home.  They said they wanted DNA testing to prove who the father was.  They told her that if their son was the father they would take the child.  The girl took the money and left; but the next day she turned back up.  When the accused family pressed her to get back on the bus and go home she said that if they made her leave she would throw the baby out of the bus window on her way!  The accused family decided that the mother was crazy and could not risk the baby dying so they agreed to take the child.  They only kept the child a few days before they brought the child to her grandmother’s house in Yendi.  The grandmother and uncles are going to care for the child until the DNA test can be done.  We are happy to help the family with the formula to feed the baby.

We spent the afternoon getting the Social Security and GRA (IRS) documents ready for next year.  All the figures have to be changed to reflect the raises the employees will get in January.  Hopefully we will be able to finish them after supper.

Have a great day!

The Monkeyshines

This morning while we were working in the Child Center I got hold of a sachet of water.  Oh!  You cannot imagine my delight when the water came out of the plastic bag!  I ran, jumped, splashed and played in the water until not only was I filthy but my leash was covered in mud, my diaper which I pooped in was leaking from all the water it sucked up and my hands and feet were dirty!  Best day of my life!  Mom did not know that I had pooped so when we got ready to leave the Center I jumped up on her and got poop on her dress!  She was not very happy about that but really I don’t think it was my fault!  After she cleaned me up she had to change her clothes; I didn’t really like that dress anyway; it is too baggy and that makes it difficult for me to snuggle up in!

As soon as Donkey fed me this morning the parents let me stay outside and help him with raking the yard!  I found 100 different ways to entertain myself!  Dad made me come in when the ladies started coming to the Child Center because I like to stand up on my hind legs so I look bigger; I holler at them and make ugly faces!  Dad is afraid that I might decide to bite someone in my efforts to protect them.  I still got to play outside but I had to be on my leash!

I hope there is more water in my future!

Love, Skeeter
