Last night we got a strong thunderstorm with winds that came. After the winds subsided and it was just raining Kandie called me over to the front door and said “Look!” The ground was littered with mangoes; about 2 bushels.
This morning before we left Yendi with Timothy for the village of Niliyuundo we stopped by the leper’s houses and gave them some of the mangoes. Then we went down the street toward town and left a bag with the lady that gave us the smoked dried rabbit. The lady was around so we left the bag of mangoes with her daughter.
The village of Niliyuundo is south of Yendi. It takes about an hour to get to the place. We had enough time to go to the chief’s house and greet him before the service started. At the chief’s house the women and teenage girls were in the compound preparing to put a new cow dung gravel floor in it. Kandie wanted to video the work but we had left the cameras in the pickup.
At the church building we were kindly greeted by all. I preached my “Christians are a peculiar People” lesson. In a nutshell, the lesson describes how a true New Testament Christian is not like the world nor is the Church like any in the world. The building had two ceiling fans working but it was still hot in the room. There were a total of 88 present for services which included the children.
After services, when the question and answers period finished, we asked the Church if they would like two metal windows to replace the two rotten frames. They were all for it. We will provide the two windows and a bag of cement; the church will pay the mason.
Kandie wanted to get back to the chief’s house to see the flooring project. She was relieved to see the women were still working. She got their permission to film them and they worked as a unit packing the floor with their sticks that had a block of wood nailed on the end of it. It will make a good video for everyone to see.
The Church loaded us up with yams and some guinea eggs before we left. We passed those gifts on to Timothy for his family. After we got back to the compound we added a box of mangoes for his house. He said the children would really be happy!
At Kulkpeni tonight it was my turn to lead the class so I taught a lesson from Jeremiah chapter 42. It tells how the people vowed to Jeremiah they would do what God told them. They were stubborn, called Jeremiah a liar and reneged on their promise. Man still hasn’t changed much has he?
Hope you had a good Lord’s Day. May God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
