Zorash and I had a plan to make soybean kabobs. The soybeans are soaked then ground and turned into a very simple tofu. The tofu is then cut into cubes, fried and soaked in a highly seasoned tomato sauce before they are grilled. Zorash said that she was going to make the tofu at her house. Once the tofu is made she gives me a portion and we each fry our own and make our own sauce. Usually I buy the soybeans and provide the Epsom Salt (the curdling agent). But this time she said that she had the soybeans and she wanted me to provide the oil to fry her kabobs in and the Epsom Salt. I gave her a gallon of cooking oil which was about twice as much as she needed but she is doing all the work. The tofu will keep in the refrigerator for several weeks. She called this morning and said that the tofu was a total failure and she had to throw all of it away. She said that she believed the fault was from the grinding mill; if the grinder is not clean and has too much leftover corn in the grinding blades the soybean will not make curds. Hopefully she was able to feed the failed soybean mixture to her sheep. She said that she is going to try again tomorrow or the next day and that she would send one of her kids to the mission house to get more Epsom Salt. I volunteered to send soybeans too but she said that she had enough.
I was disappointed today because we were slated to go out to Kpanjamba and watch the women make clay pots. The lady called Timothy last night to tell him that we could not come because she had to go to a funeral. We will try and reschedule.
Steve spent several hours in town today; he had to pay the withholding tax on the hotel we stayed at when we were in Accra; it took him over an hour to get the receipt made out and get it paid at the bank. What a waste of time. I worked on a quilt top most of the day.
Today is my sister and aunt’s birthdays. Yesterday was our grandson Taylor’s birthday. He was 18 years old. Can you imagine? He will graduate this year. We are almost never at home for Taylor’s birthday but we celebrated before we left the states. My niece’s birthday was on the 1st and one of my brothers and a sister-in-law also have a birthday this month. March is a good month for our family!
Thank you for the love, prayers and support.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
