I forgot to tell you that 71 children came to the Child Center yesterday! The Child Center has been closed for the past 3 weeks so the workers could have their 3 weeks paid leave. I guess that it took a few days for the word to go around that we were open again.
Mr. Iddrisu came back to work today but he said that he will be off again tomorrow; more traditional stuff to do with his mother’s funeral. At least he was here long enough to pay the taxes and to deposit money in the bank. I spent a good portion of the day trying to figure out what he had done with writing checks. He can hardly write a check without having to void one. There was even a check in the book that had been written to “cash” and had been signed by both Iddrisu and Zorash. They had no idea that anyone who found the check book could cash the check! There are two entries for the same amount and neither of them knows whether there were actually two checks paid out for the same amount or if one of them was a voided check. We cannot find a voided check but Mr. Iddrisu said he will continue to look for it. The bank also does not send out bank statements; if you want a bank statement for a particular month you have to make a special request for it. Please!
When Steve went to the tax office this morning he found out that the minimum wage had been announced but the new schedule would not be ready until next month.
Warihana, the teenage girl that has had 4 operations for the Osteomyelitis in her leg came to the Child Center this morning. The leg has healed over again and the doctor is hopeful that this time it will heal but we doubt it. Warihana and her father are going to Tamale tomorrow for a review; the doctors have told her to be very careful not to injure the leg again or it will reopen. If it is really healed how will it reopen? She is keeping her leg wrapped in an attempt to protect it.
We got a big rain Monday night! Nazo said that he was going to try and contract a tractor driver to come to the mission house and plow the fields. He is hopeful that it will come tomorrow but with that big of a rain the tractor might be busy.
Amama was late for work this morning because she had a flat tire on her motor scooter. She said that she took it to the mechanic and he found a small leak. She said that she was going to have to go home and apologize to the kids in her house because she had chased them and accused them of letting the air out of her tire! The children have a difficult time not climbing all over the motorcycles and pushing all the buttons.
Foster, the church leader from Borido, came to the mission house this morning and brought the old drum that I found in his village. The drum did not have a goat skin drum head; I had contracted with a man in the village to put on a new head. The drum is more beautiful than I remembered! Foster said that after the drum was finished the man wanted to change the old drum for a new one because the old one had been in the village a long time and it had been used by the Juju (fetish- witch doctor). Fortunately for me Foster would not agree to change it for a new drum.
Thank you for the love, prayers and support!
In HIS Service,
Steve and Kandie
