Mr. Iddrisu is sick; he can barely talk! He assures us that he is not sick but we suspect that he too has the Covid virus. Once again there is no testing in Yendi. If he feels poorly tomorrow we are going to have to send him home for the sake of the rest of us and the mothers that come to visit.
Tichak, the night watchman was not here last night because his brother’s son is sick and they transferred him to Tamale; his only complaint is that he aches all over. Naturally we wonder if he has Covid too. They have testing available in Tamale so maybe they will test him. He is older; maybe in his teens. Tichak called and said that he would not be here again tonight because the boy is still in the hospital. That leaves us without a watchman because Papa Zachariah is still out mourning his wife.
Timothy and Matthew Unidon, one of the church members at Kulkpeni came for a visit and a request this afternoon. Matthew has purchased a peanut hulling machine and he needs help getting it cemented into the ground and electricity run to the building. Matthew is a good guy but he does not work for us so we really couldn’t give him a loan because we have no way of getting him to pay us back. Matthew raises pigs so we gave him the money he needed against pigs for the seminar that we hope to have later in the year. He was happy with the arrangement and we will need several pigs next year. We told him that if something happened and all his pigs died we still had to have the money back. He laughed and agreed.
Amama did not come to work today because someone’s baby died. We are a bit confused about who the baby belongs to. Amama has 2 “sister” wives that live in her house; maybe it was one of their babies. We will find out more when she comes back to work. They do not do funerals for small babies so she hopefully she will be back tomorrow.
Zorash did not come to work today; she was out hunting for water. She called a couple times to let us know she had not found any yet. She may be looking for someone to come and fill the water container she borrowed from us.
My brother Paul’s friend Enoch sent a message and said that he was coming to Yendi and wanted to spend the night on April 1. We spent the morning cleaning the apartment. We were seriously short-handed today so Steve ran the vacuum while Meri and I wiped down everything in the apartment, washed windows and dishes. The place was covered with dust; not just a little dust but 2 years of dust. The apartment has not been cleaned for 2 years. We are hiring Nazo’s wife tomorrow to help clean.
Take care and thanks for all you do!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
