The masons finished putting up the new wall this afternoon, pouring the pillars. They make wooden pillar boxes and put rebar forms inside the boxes then they fill the pillar boxes with cement. They also finished removing the old foundation. It had to be dug out of the ground. Steve had Nazo and Mr. Iddrisu leave some of the rubble to demarcate the old land boundaries.
There is a huge termite mound in the back field. Steve poisoned it last year. When I say huge the mound is taller than I am; I am not sure that if I stretched I could reach the top of it. The termite dirt makes lovely plaster to stucco the buildings. The termite mounds are very hard. The last one we needed took down Steve and I thought that we would knock it down ourselves. An hour or so of that was all it took for us to hire someone else to take it down. Dawda told us that he and the other men that have been working on the wall needed some extra money and they wanted the work of taking down the mound. We negotiated a price and they had it down before they left for the day.
Divine went to Tamale this morning to take the church paperwork to the auditor. A new auditor was needed. Divine thought that he was just going to drop the documents off at the new auditor’s office but he ended up having to go back to the Registrar General’s office. He left the documents but is still not sure how much they are going to charge. I told him to ask if they were going to charge a “change of auditor’s” fee like they charged us. He said that he did not want to ask because he was afraid that would make them remember that there was a fee for changing auditors. He is waiting to hear from them.
The chief at Divine’s village is building a meeting and greeting place. All the people in the village that can make a contribution are doing so. Divine thought it would be a good idea if we donated something to the cause so we bought 2 bags of cement. The structure is going to be a traditional mud ball building with a thatch roof. The cement will be used to plaster the outside of the building.
Zorash did not come to work today and she went home a little early yesterday because her house is full of visitors that came to help celebrate the funeral of someone in their family. Sometimes the visitors will come and stay for weeks. The funeral was up near Bolgatanga. I guess that the visitors wanted to come and spend time with Zorash and her mother.
Thank you for the love, prayers and support.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
