We fulfilled our promise that we made last Sunday to visit the newly re-established Church that is located at Nandundo. Timothy didn’t have to come into town because we have to drive right by his house on the way. As he came to the pickup this morning he was carrying a huge water yam that was as big as some stove wood I used to burn in our Black Bart wood stove. Kandie had requested one to make chips that we use for dipping homemade salsa since we can’t buy corn chips here in the North. Water yams are usually saved till the ending of the dry season. By then the water has reduced within the yam making it more suitable to use. It is the yam of last resort as far as eating goes.
When we arrived at 9:30 the class time had already begun. One church brother named Freeman was teaching the class. He was one of the men who came to us last week seeking support to put up a church building. I used a lesson to encourage this re-established Church to keep pure and to follow God’s will and not some man’s creed book. There were 8 men and 10 women today. There were 25 children that also were present. We met under a tree which always makes me feel cooler than being in a church building that doesn’t have much air circulating. The members were very happy with the financial assistance that was given last week. One of the male members requested benches to have for services. The brother who owns a motor king is going to come to the compound and pick them up.
After services we were shown the cement blocks they had made. They are very industrious! They had already used the money we gave them to make more blocks. The Church should be able to put up the walls in the near future.
Since we hadn’t been to this village since 2007 we made it a point to go visit the chief. I was shocked to find out the man had been a church member years ago but I hadn’t recognized his face as he sat on his throne. We invited him to come to services but he said that the traditional religion and sacrifice had him and he couldn’t give it up. It saddened me to hear those words!
Tonight at Kulkpeni I told the men that Brother divine had found 4 pigs for the seminar which was good news. There were some leftover shirts and ties from Friday’s class so we passed some out at bible study tonight. They were quite pleased with their gift. They can wear the shirt and tie to the seminar.
That about wraps up the day so I will close. Hope you had a good Lord’s Day. God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
