It is hard to believe that this is the last day of September.  Today Mr. Iddrisu and Donkey were working overtime because they needed extra money.  If they are working overtime we want to make it worthwhile; no sitting around on overtime days!  We had them haul gravel/dirt from the burn pile and build up the areas around the buttresses that hold up the cement wall on the front side of the property.  The heavy rains have caused lots of erosion and we could see the footer (foundation under the buttresses).  We have this huge pile of gravel in the backyard in the burn pile because when Donkey rakes the yard he actually uses a broom of sorts and he sweeps up gravel along with the leaves.  We have tried to explain that he is the reason the burn pile keeps growing but he does not understand that every day he is hauling 3 or 4 wheelbarrows of gravel to the burn pile.  Every so often we have the guys dig the gravel out of the burn pile and redistribute it in the yard.  They used the motor king to help move the gravel.  This morning as they were getting started I opened one of the side gates for them so that it would make their work easier.  There is a gutter in front of the gate.  I told Mr. Iddrisu that I thought he could “jump” the gutter if he would go at it straight on.  After a little discussion we decided that it would be safer if we got the cement boards and made it so that he could cross the gutter even if he went at an angle.  Donkey and I turned to go get the boards when I heard the motor king rev up and take off at top speed!  I jumped out of the way and he hit the gutter; the front wheel and one of the back wheels jumped the gutter but the other rear wheel got stuck in the gutter.  I told him I would go get Steve to pull it out of the gutter.  He then revved up the engine again, put it in gear and started burning the rubber off the tire!  What nonsense!  I told him to stop or he would ruin the tire.  It took Steve longer to find the tow rope than it did to pull the motor king out of the gutter.  I still don’t know why he did not just ease the motor king over the gutter; I think that he took “jump” the gutter literally!  We put a slab of cement over the gutter for the rest of the day.

Steve spent most of the day working on the monthly report and I did some sewing.  At 8:00 this morning we picked Zorash up and went to see what type of fabric her friend had brought back from Accra.  She wanted us to have first choice of the fabric.  We went early because she wanted to go to the market to see what she could sell since today was Yendi’s big market day.

We woke up to lots of fog this morning.  Donkey sort of thinks he is a weather man.  He said that when you see the fog and it rolls in from the west it means that the rainy season is not over yet and there is more rain in store for us but when it rolls in from the east it means that the dry season has arrived and that is the end of the rain.  All that makes me think of our GroundHog Day.

Thank you for the love, prayers and support.
