Today we worked on the receipts yet again! We think we are just about ready to go pay the GRA taxes on the workers and the withholding tax. We needed the Tax ID number for the vendor that we buy bagged water from but the people Steve talked to did not know what the Tax ID number was and the owner was not around to provide it so Steve went to “Plan B”. He went to the tax office and asked if they had a copy of the business’ Tax ID number. They had it and they were willing to share it with Steve which is probably against some sort of privacy act but at least we have it!
This afternoon Steve went back to the Ghana Card office with Nazo to see if he could get any help from the manager in getting Nazo’s Ghana Card number. He was not successful! They are supposed to go back tomorrow; the manager said that he would put in a request for the number but who knows if they will release it. Nazo said that he saw his picture on the computer but evidently the computer has not generated the number yet.
The water proof paint that we bought earlier this year started leaking. It is in 5 gallon metal cans. We had planned on waiting until the next time that we come to have the guys use it but with it leaking we decided that it would be better to use it now than to waste it. This morning they got the other building painted. The other container is supposed to be for the building we will build the next time we come to Ghana but it appears that we are going to have to use it tomorrow; that is if it does not rain.
Meri said that several relatives are in Tamale and they are taking turns taking care of her son Aliu. It appears that Meri is not encouraged to stay in Tamale with Aliu. There is such a hierarchy in the families in this area; it has a lot to do with seniority and birth order. I guess Meri is the low man on the totem pole. She said that she had not heard anything from his caregivers for a couple days. I know where I would be if my son was in the hospital! God knew what he was doing when he decided not to create me as a Ghanaian woman!
When Mr. Iddrisu has his cataract surgery he is not supposed to do anything strenuous. He has to kick start his motorcycle and we are afraid that might be too much of an effort for him so we decided to buy a battery for his motorcycle so that he will not have to kick start it. Steve took to town this afternoon and bought the battery for him. It is left for the electrician to put the water in the battery and to charge it for him.
Have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
