Happy Halloween! No one in our part of the world celebrates Halloween in any form or fashion. Really there is no need because most people here believe in witches, witchcraft, dwarfs (sort of like Leprechauns) and unexplainable magic so they live Halloween everyday!
We have been struggling with the new printer. It will scan and print a document but we have not been able to send a document from the computer to the printer and get it to print mainly because we need to download the printer’s drivers from the internet and we have not been able to get a stable enough connection to stay online long enough to get what we need downloaded. We might have to get up in the middle of the night and see if we can get a better connection. We are happy to announce Steve was able to get enough information from Social Welfare and to download the Child Center’s tax clearance certificate. We were beyond excited to get that printed. That was the last piece of information we needed to be able to apply for the license for next year. We still have to get the documents bound and taken back to Tamale for the final approval.
Another tanker of water was dumped on the floor in the training center this morning. Dawda said that will be all the water we need until they get ready to pour the cement. Abochi the carpenter said that he was not going to buy the wood for the roof until the lumber company got a new shipment of lumber because what they had left was not anything he wanted to use for the roof. He said that a load was supposed to come today so maybe in a couple days we will get what we need. The wood has to be cut to specifications which will take a little while. All the lumber comes in as rough cut 2×8 which then is cut down to 2×6, 2×4 and 2×2’s.
We took the green truck to Gomda, the mechanic this morning to have the oil and fuel filters changed. He also changed the oil in the gear box and greased everything for us. We would have liked to change the air filter but they are difficult to find and very costly so he took the air filter to a mechanic that had an air compressor and had it blown out.
On our way back from town Steve spied the Nestles’ truck so he chased it down. Nestles is the company that makes the formula we give the babies. A couple months ago we saw the truck parked in the market selling to the general public; we were surprised that they had the formula and they also were able to give us a VAT receipt so we don’t have to pay extra tax on the formula which makes it cheaper. We do love to save money! We had not planned on buying formula this morning so we did not have a lot of extra money with us but we were able to buy 7 cases. Before we saw the Nestles truck we had been to one of the small shops and bought 62 boxes of communion juice for the churches. Steve is trying to get everything packed down before we start hunting and gathering for the seminar.
Enjoy the kids that come trick or treating!
In HIS Service,
Steve and Kandie
