I thought that I was going to get bookkeeping done today but that is not the way things worked out.  I got up early and sorted all the receipts.  I was about ½ way through figuring the withholding tax when Zorash called and said she was going to be late for work.  That threw a wrench into the works.  I would have said it threw a “monkey wrench” into the works but I don’t want to insult Skeeter.  Steve had to go to the MTN office (the cell phone office) and see why the mobile money was not working.  The line at this office is always so long.  After  he got the mobile money up and running he went to the GRA office (sort of like our IRS office) to see if they could figure out why he was not able to log into the account for the Child Center or for West Hobbs St.  The guy tried to figure out what was wrong but could not.  He invited Steve to come back in the morning and he was going to have another guy help him.  He can log in from his cell phone but not the computer.  It is difficult to work their system through the cell phone and making copies and receipts to take to the bank to make payments is nearly impossible.  Maybe they can figure out something tomorrow.

Since Zorash and Steve were not around Meri and I had to man the Child Center.  We only had a couple of new babies this morning and one of the mothers was educated so she helped me fill out the chart.  Spelling and pronouncing the names is very difficult for me.

We spent the afternoon cleaning out the spare bedroom; you know we have guests coming later this month!  We are so excited!  Our son-in-law and grandson are coming to help us; I can’t wait!  When no one is staying in the guest rooms we keep the beds covered with plastic and I do not wash the sheets until new guests are about to arrive.  Even with the plastic covers the dust is still everywhere.  The spare room gets used as a catch all room when no one is around.  We also started cleaning out the “Cool” room.  It is actually a bedroom but we do not use it as a bedroom.  We use it as a second dining room.  The real dining room has no air conditioning but the bedroom does.  Years ago we changed the beds out for a table, chairs and bookcases.  We keep office materials and teaching materials in this room too along with excess fabric.  We turn the air conditioner on shortly before it is time to eat so we can eat in the cool.

Amama was back at work this morning.  She said that her rival’s child was doing better and they had been discharged.  It was good to have her back!

Mr. Iddrisu and Donkey started the tedious task of cutting tar paper squares to put under the roofing nails.  The tar paper helps seal around the roofing nails to prevent leaks.  Steve called Abochi the carpenter today to see if the new shipment of lumber had come to Yendi yet.  He said that a truck load came but that it was terrible so he rejected it.  He said he is going to wait for the next load and see if it was any better.  Another case of hurry up and wait!

Nana Bekum the evangelist from the Chereponi area told Steve that the corner was trying to fall off one of the church buildings.  Nana called a few minutes ago to let Steve know that he had sent pictures of the building so he could see the damage.  He will have to get an estimate as to how much it will cost to repair.  It is unusual to have damage in the dry season.   They need to get the repairs done before the rains start.

Have a great day!

The Monkeyshines

I had a lovely day; especially this afternoon!  Mom and Dad were in and out of the house all afternoon!  This meant that both the main house and the apartment were open.  My playground just increased 2 times!  I got very quick darting in and out of the doors before they closed!  I had to be especially careful to run in completely so that my tail did not get shut in the door!  Wouldn’t it be terrible to get your tail snapped off?  A monkey would not be a real monkey without a tail!

When I was not running in and out I was playing in the mango tree.  As I am jumping around in the trees I have lots to eat.  The mangos are getting ripe and they are delicious.  The mangos are everywhere so I take a bite of this one and jump over and get a bite of another one.  Mom says that I am ruining the fruit and that no one will want to eat the fruit after I have taken a bite of it.  Sorry for their bad luck!

Hope your day was as good as mine!

Love, Skeeter
