Zorash went to see her Aunt in Tamale on Friday.  She said that one of her brothers needed surgery but the family did not have money for the surgery so they left the hospital against medical advice and took the child home.  She said the child was an 11 year old boy.  At that point we knew it could not be her real brother; they call their relatives their mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters but they are not really their close family; they are from their extended family.  After a little investigating we figured out that the child was actually her second cousin.  The relationship really does not matter to us if the child needs surgery he needs surgery no matter who he is related to.  The best we can make out from the spelling of the diagnosis is that the child has Typhoid perforations.  Zorash checked with the rest of her family and they were able to come up with 350 of the 1500 Cedis that they need for the surgery.  Thanks to those who donate to help the children and for “whatever comes up” we were able to give them the rest of the money they needed for the surgery.  Zorash called the child’s grandmother and told them to take him back to the hospital.  Hopefully the surgery will be a success.

The mother with the child that has the tumor on his face is still getting treatments in Tamale; we finally got the hospital staff to send us a picture of the medicine they have been giving the child; it is a chemo drug; they told the mother they are trying to get the tumor to become small and hard so they can remove it.  The mother said that the baby was anemic and that the doctor told her to buy blood tonic to help keep the child strong but the mother did not have the money to buy the blood tonic so she sent a message to her husband in the village and he did not have enough money either so this morning we sent the money to the mother so she could get what she needed.

Donkey (Nazo) was not at work yesterday or today because the Ya-Na (king of Dagbon) had him go to the Volta Region with him.  The Ya-Na never goes anywhere alone; he always goes with a delegation of people.  He has his own commercial type bus and driver so he can carry his people with him.  I don’t think the Ya-Na is in the bus; he has his own private cars and driver.  Donkey should be back tomorrow.

Mr. Iddrisu has not yet been back to work.  When Zorash came this morning I asked her if she was going to visit him; she said she was afraid to go see him because we said we thought he had Covid and she does not want to get sick.  I told her that I needed to give a gift of onions to his wife.  Zorash volunteered to take the onions to his wife but she said she was not going to greet Mr. Iddrisu.  We do not blame her!

We spent the bulk of the day packing our suitcases for our trip home at the beginning of next month.  We did not have anything particular to do today so we decided to get that job done and out of the way.  We know that we will be too busy as the month goes on.

Abochi, the carpenter has not been able to get the lumber yet because the truck that was bringing the new shipment of lumber broke down on the way and they are working on the truck.  Who knows how long it will be before the truck gets to Yendi.

Take care, have a good day!
