We ended up spending the whole day in Tamale! We had some success and some failures with the errands we had to run. When we arrived at Japan Motors to have the van serviced we noticed that our name was not on the white board in the main office which means we did not have an appointment. The Office manager said that it was probably an oversight and he would put us on the list. Later in the morning Steve got a phone call from Japan Motors in Accra. They were waiting on him to bring the van in to be serviced. The other day when Steve called to make the appointment he went to Japan Motor’s website and called the Tamale number. Evidently the numbers have been changed, hence the reason we did not have an appointment at our Japan Motors. We had lots of stuff to do so we left and started walking to town. We could not neglect our morning walk just because we were in Tamale. We needed to renew our Non-citizens’ card; the office is on the second floor of one of the bank buildings. Fortunately the payments are made to that bank. We sat in the bank for about an hour and a half waiting for our number to be called. We filled out the forms while we waited. Midway through the process of renewing the cards the network went down.
There was no way of knowing when the network would be back up so we left and went to the Land’s Commission to check on the lease. When we got there and they pulled our file we found out that the documents we took to them a month ago were not in our documents. The lawyer who comes from Accra once a month to sign the leases was not in his office and today was his last day to be in Tamale. His secretary tried to call him but she could not get hold of him. Later this afternoon we took them a copy of the misplaced documents and the lawyer still had not come in. We doubt that he will sign them this month.
We went back to Japan Motors in hopes that the van would be done but it was up on the rack and everyone had gone on their lunch break and would not be back for an hour. They said they had to replace the bushing on the shocks and while they were working on them they ruined one. They would work on it when they came back from lunch. Please give me strength! We then went back to town and ate lunch at SWAD; a little outdoor restaurant. While we were walking we passed our bank and decided to get change for some of the large bills we were carrying. Shortly after we left the bank the teller called and said that he thought that he had given us back too much money and asked us to come back to the bank to verify the amount of money we received. Remember we had no car so we were having to walk everywhere! It was hot! Steve forgot his hat so we stopped and bought him one; he was happy to have it even if it was not the most fashionable hat! They had not made a mistake in the amount of money we received. The other bank called and said our Non-citizen cards were ready; after we picked them up we went back to Japan Motors and picked up the van; stopped and bought a used office chair, step ladder and communion juice then headed back to Yendi. We were proud to be on the road back to Yendi!
Thank you for all you do for us!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
