Since we had to come to Accra a couple days early to get the Covid test we decided to take advantage of the extra time here and to do a little sightseeing. We went to the slave castle at Elima and then to the suspended bridges at Kakum that span over the top of the forest canopy. Both of these places are very neat places to visit. Marcus has been to the slave castle but never to the walk over. Of course it was all new and wonderful for Taylor. It is exciting to take new people to the sites in Ghana that we love; it is refreshing to see them through “new” eyes. I asked Taylor what he liked best of all that he had seen and he said he still liked sitting on the crocodile the best!
We thought that the traffic would not be so bad today because it was Saturday but we were wrong! The trip there that should have taken 3 ½ hours took 6. The trip back was not as bad but it still took about 5 ½ hours. We spent a long time in the car today. The car was rather small for all of us. Taylor, Steve and I were in the back seat together. We were proud and amazed that the car had a good air conditioner. Well, that is until the trip back; about an hour outside of Accra we lost the air conditioning but at least the sun had gone down. We were like synchronized swimmers; I would tell everyone to turn to the right and we would all in unison shift our legs to that side of the car, when we got tired of sitting that way I would announce that it was time to turn to the left. We had some lively Biblical discussion on the ride that helped pass the time. The driver that we hired was so very kind and attentive. Wearing the masks for so many hours was rather annoying but it is still the law in Ghana.
As soon as we got back to Accra we had the driver drop us off at the Chinese restaurant; we were starving! We had been eating out of the snack bag all day and were ready for some “real food”.
After supper we hired a taxi to take us to the clinic to pick up our Covid test results; all of us got negative tests! Then came back to the hotel and Steve and Marcus spent the next hour or so filling out the medical exams and printing out the QR code for everyone’s test.
We are tired; it is almost 12:00 and past time for bed.
Good night!
In His service,
Steve, Kandie, Marcus and Taylor
