We were in Tamale again today! Lucky us! We had gathered everything that the Social Welfare Department required for the renewal of the license except the criminal background check. We took all the documents for the Social Welfare officer to review. She did not find any problem with anything. Of course hers was a quick once over review. When we get the criminal report we will take it to the office and they will bind all the documents into a folder before forwarding it on to Accra for the final approval. We feel good about the progress we have made.
We went to the Registrar General’s office to check on the document we need to get the land lease on the mission property. We did not fare so well at that office. It seems that the documents came in but they had listed all the Americans as Ghanaians and were requesting the Ghana Citizen Cards. The documents had to be sent back to be redone. The man that is helping us said he does not think that it will take very long to get the amended documents; not long could mean almost anything. The first time we went to the office to inquire about the process and what was needed to complete it was in March. We are not holding our breath on anything being speedy!
The mother of the little guy who cannot pick up his arms called today and said that she had met with several doctors and they looked at the x-ray. The doctors were all in agreement that there was nothing to be done for the child. We were not surprised because it appears that parts of the bones in his arms are missing. We wish we could see the x-ray. We know that this is not the news the mother was hoping for but now we can move forward with helping her find ways of helping the child get as much use out of his hands as possible. We sure wish that there were therapists here to work with the child.
The men got all the gravel moved into the rooms of the new building. They fill the floors with packed gravel before they put on a layer of cement. The cement will not go on until after the roof is on. The men working on the roof will help pack the gravel.
The electricity was off all night. Early this morning Steve got up and turned on the generator but we turned it off before we left for Tamale. It was back on when we got back from Tamale but it went off shortly after we got back.
This evening we took Tichak, the night watchman out to the building where we have the extra bicycles and told him to pick out the one he wanted. Tichak lives about 5 miles from Yendi and he rides his bicycle back and forth to work. Part of the bargain we made with him when we hired him to be a night watchman was that we would buy him a bicycle and keep it up so it would be reliable. It has been several years since he has had a new (used) bicycle. He was happy with the one he picked out.
Have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
