This morning Zorash showed us a video of Abduli-Ganu; the young man that got an artificial leg. We started the process before Covid struck so he has been waiting a long time to be able to walk again. Early in August he went down to Nsawam to be fitted for his prosthesis. He has to stay in Nsawam for 6 weeks to learn how to walk and take care of his new leg. The video showed Abduli-Ganu walking with no assistance. He did not even have to have a cane or the single arm crutch. Zorash has been in contact with him and he is so excited to be able to walk again especially without assistance! I am sure that he will come to the mission house to show off his new leg when they release him.
Steve made 2 trips to the GRA (IRS) office this morning and 2 trips to the SSNIT (Social Security) office. Needless to say he wasted a good portion of the morning trying to get the taxes paid on the place we slept in Accra. There were 2 receipts for separate nights. They were supposed to combine the receipts but they did not. When Steve got back to the mission house I told him that they had not charged us enough tax so we headed back to the office to see what was wrong. They had only figured the tax on one of the receipts. I think the men in the tax office think we are crazy for coming back in and asking to pay more tax!
John Nchola, one of the men that used to work for us is of retiring age and is due for early retirement. He came to the mission house this morning trying to get us to help him get his pension started. The Child Center has nothing to do with his pension; it is all taken care of through the SSNIT office. Steve made 2 trips to the office and then John made 2 trips to the mission house and one to the office. He must have been able to satisfy the requirements because we did not see him again. It appears that if he takes early retirement he gets a lump sum of money and does not qualify for a monthly allowance.
Nazo’s wife is sick; she is having difficulty breathing, she has a fever, is coughing and has a headache. Sounds like Covid. Nazo did not want to take her to the hospital because her health insurance died (had expired) so he called one of the medical assistance and he made a house call. He gave her IV drips and a couple shots yesterday. This morning he came back and gave her more drips and another shot. Of course he has no idea what medicine they gave her. When we got to Yendi a couple weeks ago Nazo was sick with the same symptoms.
Have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
