It has been raining most of the afternoon.  The ladies that work the Child Center went home a little early today because we could see the storm brewing.  Donkey went home for lunch and never came back.  Mr. Iddrisu stayed until it started sprinkling at about 2:00.  None of the workers have a car so they are either riding bicycles, motorcycles or walking so none of them want to get wet!

Bunches of women came to the Child Center early this morning but when the clouds began to gather the number tapered off.  This morning a mother came with her very overweight baby.  We seldom see fat babies but this is the first seriously overweight baby we have seen.  The baby was 1 year 2 months and weighed 14 kilos which is 30 ½ pounds.  The average weight for a baby that is 14 months old is 20 ½ pounds.  It took all the mother’s strength to lift the baby up onto the scale.  I don’t know how she stood carrying her around on her back.  The mother said the baby had started to crawl and that she had begun to talk.  Hopefully as the baby becomes more mobile she will lose some of the weight.  The very low weight baby that came last week came back today and still had not gained any weight.  The mother of the child has some challenges.  She has epilepsy and has fallen into the fire several times.  Her left hand has so much scarring that it is mostly useless.  Her seizures are not well controlled; we are afraid the baby is going to have an uphill battle.

Steve has been trying to get the information on the Seminar that is being held this month in Takoradi.  We want to send some of the evangelists to the Seminar but Steve is having a difficult time getting hold of the schedule.  The bus ticket will have to be bought ahead of time to ensure that the men have a seat.  Last year Timothy went to Tamale to buy the tickets.

Steve has been working on the Social Welfare report for the Child Center.  When we were in Tamale last week we stopped at the Social Welfare office to make sure that all the requirements were the same as they were last year.  We don’t want to have any surprises when we turn in the report.  November is the month that we turn it in even though it is not due until December.

I started working on a new quilt block this afternoon.  It is a church building.  I think it will be cute when it is finished.  It is one of a series of buildings.  The school house turned out really cute but I did not have any blue fabric with stars so I think I will embroidery stars on it.

Enjoy your day!
