Amama was not here today; she was helping cook for the funeral of the lady that died last week. They will not only cook one time, they will cook breakfast, lunch and supper for the funeral day and then they will have to cook for all the guests that will sleep over. Please, it makes me tired just thinking about cooking outside in this terrible heat! Our high temperature today was 109 degrees with a heat index of 110 degrees. The sun has set and it is still 101 degrees.
Divine, the evangelist / farmer stopped by this afternoon. He had bought a couple of 200 pound bags of rice to sell. I agreed to buy the rice before I realized that it had not yet been steamed and dried to make removing the husk easier. Zorash said she and the other ladies would help get it ready to husk but it takes lots of water so we put it in the storage shed and will wait until we get rain and the reservoir is full to prepare the rice to take to the grinding mill. Divine said that it will last for more than 20 years if it is still in the husk.
Divine also needed us to type up a letter requesting funds to dredge the dam at Kpamang. This is the dam that we helped build in 2016. Over the years the dam has silted in and it is not able to hold as much water as the community needs. The water is low right now so the villagers organized themselves and took fish nets and caught all the fish. They then brought the fish to town and sold them. They got 860 Cedis for the fish. They are going to use the money to add to the fund to dredge the dam. Divine plans to appeal to the district assembly, the board of education and all the farmers from Yendi that go to Kpamang to farm. He even gave Mr. Iddrisu a letter because Mr. Iddrisu also has a farm plot at Kpamang. He will have to hurry up with this project because once the rain comes the dam will fill very quickly and no equipment will be able to get in to work. He brought us a gift of 6 guinea eggs as a thank you for typing the letter. The Chief from Kpamang also came with Divine. He was needed as a signature on the letter. The Chief is illiterate so he thumb printed the letter.
We sent Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo to Zorash’s house this morning to get the large 4 foot square water container that she borrowed last week for the naming ceremony. She said that the truck finally brought the water on Friday; the day of the ceremony. She said that she wanted to order another load of water but there were too many people standing in line to order water. She said that the city water works are selling bore hole water.
Thank you for the love, prayers and support. Please keep us in your prayers for rain.
In His service,
Steve and Kandie
