We had the opportunity to visit the congregation at Bakpaba this morning. I had put the bench together yesterday so all I had to do was tie it down in the truck bed. I had to replace one of the wooden legs because in the past two months the wood beetles had eaten a big wedge out of it. The legs of the benches are folded down and nailed so they don’t require so much room when transporting them.
When we arrived the congregation was still singing in the members before they started services. The Church had decided to allow Timothy and I to combine the class time and worship lesson into one. My lesson topic dealt with witches that also allowed me to preach about the fetish priests, soothsayers, divination, and the like. The government of Ghana recently has made it a criminal offense to call anyone a witch. If something goes wrong in the village a “witch” is thought to be the cause so any one who is aged or mentally handicapped, malformed babies, and especially if a woman gets the blame. The lucky ones are sent to a witch camp where a stronger Juju person is in charge of them. The unlucky people are killed or come up missing. The congregation really did enjoy the lesson and there were several questions asked after services closed. Of course, we Americans as a group don’t have problems like this . Some just think unborn babies are organic material which needs to be aborted when they are unwanted. (Sarcasm)
This congregation has been working to get their church building finished. They have the outside plastered now so we presented them with some money to help plaster the inside of the building. They were very appreciative of the money. We also thank you for giving us money that can be used to help these brethren.
The generator ran all night. I looked at the power lines this morning to see if any tree limbs had gotten into the lines. As we passed through town on our way back from Bakpaba I stopped at the VRA office to see if anyone was around to check out the problem. We were in luck so we brought the man to the house not knowing he had already come out to solve the problem earlier this morning. The bottom line is we have electricity again!
After dropping the electrician off at the office we went into the market to buy vegetables. We met our friends Gomda, the mechanic and Mr. Adams, the fix-it man.
At bible study tonight at Kulkpeni I gave a shorter version of the witches’ lesson that I gave this morning. I think sometime in the near future they would like me to come teach more about it in the Sunday morning bible class. That will be enjoyable!
That’s it for today. Thanks so much for allowing us to share our day with you. Remember if you want to email us just send an email directly to us.
Hope you had a great Lord’s Day! May God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
