We barely did anything but sit in the house today but we got lots of our bookwork done. We have 2 sets of books to justify each month; the ones that belong to the general work of running this place and the ones that are specific to the Child Center. We have not had opportunity to bring the Child Center books up to date until today; there were piles of receipts to enter and then of course we always seem to run into a glitch or two.
Steve made a couple trips to town today which gave us a break from the humdrum of the bookwork. The first time he went he bought diesel for the generator because for the past 2 days we have been without electricity all day long. It seems that the electric company is doing some updating on the lines around the Brong Ahafo region which is miles away from us. Many times if one section of Ghana is without power the whole of Ghana is without power. He also tried to buy units for the electricity but guess what, the electricity was off and the electric company does not have a generator so they could not sell electrical units today. At least while we were in town we bought fast food for lunch so no cooking for me. I was so excited that the lady who had stopped selling Banku (fermented corn dough ball with okra soup) was selling it again today. This is the first time since I have been back that I have been able to get the Banku. Zorash has made it for me but it just does not taste the same. Steve had rice with spaghetti and tomato sauce.
This afternoon Zorash called to let me know that her friend had gotten a new shipment of fabric and she wanted me to come and take a look to see if there was anything I was interested in; of course there were 2 pieces that I liked. Fabric is my one weakness! Ha!
When the electricity came back on at 4:00Steve beat a path to the electrical company so he could buy units before they closed. The place was covered up with people! On one of his trips to town he bought diesel for our trip to Jakpumba tomorrow and he also bought a 25 liter jerry can of diesel for the generator. We have no idea how long it will take them to fix the electrical problems.
The road construction crew has made it to the main road that leads to the mission house; the road is blocked. Now we have to snake our way around the back way and pass through the District Assemble area. Ours is not the only road that they have blocked. They said they are going to put a roundabout on the main road with one of the spurs leading to the mission house. It will be nice when it is finished but what a mess!
Have a great day!
In HIS Service,
Steve and Kandie
