The compound was full of people today. First thing this morning Steve and I went to town to buy a few more items that Saibu needed for wiring the garage, we also stopped by the motor vehicle office to drop off Steve’s passport photos for the motorcycle transfer, then we headed to the VRA electricity company. They still have not credited back the money that was left on the old pre-paid meter card when they changed out the meter 3 weeks ago. They told Steve that it would take some time. Who knows what that actually means? Steve also bought more units for the new meter. By the time we got back to the mission house it was time to open the Child Center.
Saibu told Steve this morning that his name is spelled “SAYIBU”. He was in the yard waiting for us when we got back from town. He brought 2 men today to help him. They worked diligently all day but were not able to finish the job. He had the men run the wire through plastic pipe; we are not sure why but maybe it was to keep the wires from getting tangled. If it was for beauty sake we don’t care because it is the garage. They are to come back tomorrow and finish the job. Mr. Iddrisu told us that the ceiling fan in the office was not working correctly. We had Sayibu replace the fan while he was here. Steve made 5 trips to town today to buy more electrical supplies; Sayibu was not very good at estimating how much he needed.
In the midst of Sayibu and his men working and extra mothers in the Child Center, Red came with his helper and a motor king. He had finished the metal stair steps. He brought them to double check to make sure they were the right height. They are very heavy; they appear to be strong. The welding is a little rough as it is with most of Red’s welding projects but once they get a couple coats of paint they will look “grand”. Tomorrow he is planning on bringing the pipes that will actually support the steps; at the moment they are leaning against the wall. We will dig holes and set the supports in cement. After the cement sets Red will bring his welder and well the steps to the supports. Dawda, the mason came for a visit and was here in time to help unload the steps. Everyone thought the steps were wonderful. There is a wall around the flat roof; Red knocked an opening in the wall. Dawda will come and dress the opening after the steps are installed. Nazo, the day man, is the one that has to climb on the roof and clean the leaves out of the cement gutters. He thought that we made the steps so it would be easier for him to access the gutters. He climbed the steps and then sat down on the bottom step and said that when he finished cleaning the gutters he could sit on the steps and rest. Little does he know we made the steps for a lookout tower. I think the night watchmen will enjoy using it especially if they hear something in the night.
Thank you for the love, prayers and support. We appreciate you!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
