This morning a mother came to the Child Center with a child that was mentally delayed.  The little boy was 16 months old and does not crawl or walk.  He can stand but not without assistance.  He does not pull up and when he wants to get from “Point A” to “Point B” he rolls.  We are not sure whether there is something going on with his hip joints because he could sit on the ground with legs spread straight in front of him and fold himself over at his waist and lay his head and torso flat out on the floor.  We have a baby walker in the Child Center that Meri used for her last baby and Amama is presently using for her niece that she has to bring to work a couple times a week.   We had the mother put the little boy in the walker to see if he could make it move.  He only made it go backwards a few steps but he seemed to enjoy it so Steve went to town and bought one to send home with them.  The child is not eating food yet; we encouraged the mother to try him on different types of food and to let him spend a little time each day in the walker.  He was a very pleasant guy; when his mother turned on the music on her cell phone he started dancing.

Zorash and I went to town this morning and bought corn and soybeans for the weaning mix.  We had to close the Child Center on Tuesday when we went to Tamale because neither Zorash nor Mr. Iddrisu could come to work so the girls are going to have a makeup day tomorrow.  The Center will not be open so it will be a perfect time to roast the grain.

This afternoon we went to Zorash’s house and picked up more Shea butter and then we went to town in search of Kuleekulee (the peanut butter snacks we give the children when they visit the Center).  We could not find any but we found a woman that was in the process of making some and we were able to order it for tomorrow.  Now all we have to do is remember to go pick it up.

The electricity is off; it has been raining so it is to be expected.  Yesterday Steve went to the electric company to report the low voltage.  They came out and looked around and asked us if our electricity was grounded!  Excuse me!  Do I look like I want to be shocked?   How silly is that; of course it is grounded!  Besides I am not sure if grounded has anything to do with the amount of voltage that is running through the lines.  They did confirm that the transformer in our area had blown and they had connected our area to the transformer in the area next to us.

Take care and have a great day!

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
